Please help us celebrate Marci for all her years of service! We love her and want to show her how much! All are welcome to come by on Thursday August 20th from 4-6 for a reception celebrating her! Marci has shown love to our community for many years and we want to show her love back 🥰🩷 all patients, past and current are welcome to attend!
Marci Griffin began working for Dr. Russell Hamblen in 1976 on a six-week trial basis. Now, 50 years later, Marci remains a fixture at the dental practice.
“I agreed to try it for six weeks,” said Marci, “and if it didn’t work out, I could walk away with no hard feelings.”
She hasn’t walked away yet, even though the entire staff has changed and she’s now working for Dr. Hamblen’s daughter, Megan Taylor. To top it off, Marci has no plans to leave Hickory Creek Dental Arts.
“There’s a lot of laughter here and laughter does a body good,” said Marci, who handles most financial aspects of the business, including payroll and filing dental insurance. She’s also a great listener and gives dozens of hugs a day.
Marci remembers how Dr. Hamblen was always up to mischief. She said a belly dancer made an appearance when staff members threw him a party years ago for his 40th birthday.
To recognize Marci for 50 years of service at Hickory Creek Dental Arts, a celebration will be held next Thursday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 6 pm at the office at 2681 S. Chancery Street. Dr. Taylor stressed it’s not a retirement party.
“It’s not an everyday thing for someone to work 50 years at the same business,” said Megan. “Her dedication and loyalty need to be celebrated. She’s an anchor. The hygienists have changed, and the doctors have changed, but she’s still here.”
Marci, 80, says she has no plans to leave.
“I feel young for my age,” she said. “I can’t believe I have two children who are 59 and 55. Where has the time gone? I figure I’ll wake up one morning and know when it’s time to retire, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.”
The community is invited to stop by Hickory Creek Dental Arts next Thursday from 4 to 6 pm to give Marci a hug and share memories. There will be food and fun – but no belly dancer!
