Gums bleeding when you brush or floss?

That’s usually a sign that something is irritating the gums. One common reason is plaque or tartar around the gumline, which can trigger inflammation and bleeding.

Healthy gums generally should not bleed with normal brushing or flossing. If it keeps happening, a dental visit can help us check your gum measurements and see whether you need a regular cleaning, better home care, or gum infection therapy.

Small chip. Clean fix.

This patient had a small chip on the front teeth, right where you notice it when you smile or talk. The goal was simple: repair the chip so it blends in naturally, without making the teeth look overdone.

For small front-tooth chips, cosmetic bonding can sometimes be a great option. It lets us rebuild the missing area, match the shade, and keep the repair conservative.

If you have a chipped tooth, even if it does not hurt, it is worth getting it checked. A quick visit can help you understand whether bonding, smoothing, or another option makes the most sense.

Growing a baby is a full-time job, and your oral health deserves just as much attention during pregnancy as everything else. Here are 5 things every expecting mom should know:

1. Don’t skip your cleanings. Pregnancy hormones can make your gums more sensitive and prone to inflammation. Staying on schedule with your hygiene visits is one of the best things you can do.
2. Use mouthwash regularly. A simple rinse goes a long way in keeping bacteria in check, especially if morning sickness has been rough on your teeth.
3. Some treatment shouldn’t wait. If something hurts or doesn’t look right, it’s safer to address it now than let it go. Untreated infections during pregnancy can carry real risks.
4. Don’t avoid x-rays out of fear. Modern dental x-rays are safe during pregnancy, and skipping them means we could miss something important. We always take every precaution to keep you and baby protected.
5. Watch the snacking. Frequent grazing, especially on sugary or acidic foods, creates the perfect environment for cavities. If you’re snacking more than usual (we get it), just make sure you’re rinsing or brushing after.

Can we talk about fluoride for a second? 👇

A meta-analysis recently went viral linking fluoride to lower IQ and I get why that’s alarming. But as a dentist, I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t give you the full picture.

The studies in that analysis? Largely low quality. Many were from areas where fluoride concentrations were significantly higher than anything you’d encounter here in the U.S., and they were unable to control for many confounding factors.

At the levels used in dentistry and public water, fluoride is safe. For patients at high risk for decay, it’s genuinely one of the best tools we have.
Skepticism is healthy. So is knowing who to ask. 😊

Going fluoride free is okay, but you should consult with a dentist to see if it’s right for you.
