Growing a baby is a full-time job, and your oral health deserves just as much attention during pregnancy as everything else. Here are 5 things every expecting mom should know:

1. Don’t skip your cleanings. Pregnancy hormones can make your gums more sensitive and prone to inflammation. Staying on schedule with your hygiene visits is one of the best things you can do.
2. Use mouthwash regularly. A simple rinse goes a long way in keeping bacteria in check, especially if morning sickness has been rough on your teeth.
3. Some treatment shouldn’t wait. If something hurts or doesn’t look right, it’s safer to address it now than let it go. Untreated infections during pregnancy can carry real risks.
4. Don’t avoid x-rays out of fear. Modern dental x-rays are safe during pregnancy, and skipping them means we could miss something important. We always take every precaution to keep you and baby protected.
5. Watch the snacking. Frequent grazing, especially on sugary or acidic foods, creates the perfect environment for cavities. If you’re snacking more than usual (we get it), just make sure you’re rinsing or brushing after.

Can we talk about fluoride for a second? 👇

A meta-analysis recently went viral linking fluoride to lower IQ and I get why that’s alarming. But as a dentist, I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t give you the full picture.

The studies in that analysis? Largely low quality. Many were from areas where fluoride concentrations were significantly higher than anything you’d encounter here in the U.S., and they were unable to control for many confounding factors.

At the levels used in dentistry and public water, fluoride is safe. For patients at high risk for decay, it’s genuinely one of the best tools we have.
Skepticism is healthy. So is knowing who to ask. 😊

Going fluoride free is okay, but you should consult with a dentist to see if it’s right for you.

✨Composite Bonding Repair✨

This patient had existing composite bonding on her lateral teeth, but a small chip appeared. Her local dentist recommended 4 veneers, but thankfully she sought a second opinion!

We successfully repaired the chip, making it look like new! While veneers can be a good long-term option, composite bondings are great because they're conservative, repairable, and cost effective!
