🦷✨ We had a wonderful time speaking with the seniors at AmeriCorps and ASAS Health in Edinburg about the importance of oral health and how it connects to overall wellness!

Many people don't realize that a healthy mouth can play a role in supporting heart health, diabetes management, nutrition, and overall quality of life. That's why regular dental visits and good oral hygiene habits are so important at every age. 💙

Thank you to ASAS Health in Edinburg for the invitation and to the amazing AmeriCorps seniors who joined us. We enjoyed sharing information, answering questions, and helping empower our community to take charge of their oral health.

At Burkett Dentistry, we're passionate about educating our patients because a healthy smile is about so much more than just teeth! 😁

🦷 “Why Are My Teeth So Sensitive?” ☕🥶🍦

If sipping hot coffee or biting into ice cream makes you cringe, your teeth may be trying to tell you something! Tooth sensitivity can happen for several reasons, including:

✨ Worn enamel from brushing too hard
✨ Gum recession exposing the roots
✨ Cavities or cracked teeth
✨ Teeth grinding/clenching
✨ Recent whitening treatments
✨ Gum disease or buildup under the gums

Sensitivity may seem minor, but it can sometimes be a sign of a bigger issue that shouldn’t be ignored. The good news? A dental exam can help find the cause and get you feeling comfortable again! 🙌

Don’t let sensitive teeth keep you from enjoying your favorite foods and drinks. Schedule your checkup and let’s get to the root of the problem! 🪥😁

🦷👶 “But they’re just baby teeth…”
We hear this all the time — but baby teeth play a HUGE role in your child’s health and development!

So when should your little one first visit the dentist?
👉 The American Dental Association recommends a child’s first dental visit by their FIRST birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in.

Why so early? Because those tiny teeth matter more than you think! ✨

🪥 Early dental visits help:
• Prevent cavities before they start
• Make sure teeth are developing properly
• Catch habits like thumb sucking or tongue thrusting early
• Help parents learn the best brushing and feeding habits
• Create a positive, stress-free experience with the dentist from a young age

🚨 Baby teeth are important because they:
• Hold space for adult teeth
• Help with speech development
• Help children chew and eat properly
• Affect confidence and smiling

Did you know?
Baby bottle decay and cavities can happen FAST — even in toddlers. Early checkups can save your child from pain, infections, and costly treatment later on.

At Burkett Dentistry, we love helping little smiles grow healthy and strong from the very beginning 💙🦷

🦷 “Can’t I just fix the cavities and skip the deep cleaning?”
We hear this A LOT — and while cavities are important to treat, avoiding a recommended deep cleaning could mean ignoring the foundation that holds your teeth in place. 👀

At Burkett Dentistry, we want our patients to understand why a deep cleaning (also called scaling and root planing) is sometimes necessary — because it’s about much more than just “clean teeth.”

Here’s what happens when gum disease is left untreated:
⚠️ Plaque and tartar build up below the gumline
⚠️ Bacteria begin attacking the gums and bone
⚠️ Gums pull away from the teeth
⚠️ Bone loss starts happening silently
⚠️ Teeth can become loose over time
⚠️ Eventually… tooth loss can happen 😟

The scary part?
Gum disease doesn’t always hurt in the beginning. Many patients think, “My teeth feel fine,” while infection is slowly damaging the bone supporting their teeth.

A regular cleaning is meant for healthy gums.
A deep cleaning is needed when infection and buildup have gone deeper beneath the gums where a regular cleaning simply cannot reach.

Think of it this way 👇
Filling a cavity while ignoring active gum disease is like repainting a house with a damaged foundation. The cavity may get fixed… but the support system is still breaking down.

The good news?
Deep cleanings help stop the progression of gum disease, protect your bone, save your teeth, and improve your overall oral health. 🙌

At Burkett Dentistry, we’re not here to “sell” treatment — we’re here to help you keep your smile healthy for years to come. 💙

Don’t ignore the warning signs your gums are giving you now and risk bigger problems later.

📞 Call Burkett Dentistry today to schedule your visit and protect your smile before small problems become BIG ones.

🦷✨ At Burkett Dentistry, we believe patient education is just as important as treatment! Your oral health affects so much more than just your smile — it’s connected to your overall health, confidence, and daily comfort.

That’s why we take the time to explain treatments, answer questions, and help you understand the “why” behind your dental care. From proper brushing and flossing techniques to learning how gum disease, cavities, and oral health can impact the rest of your body — we’re here to help you feel informed and confident every step of the way. 💙

A healthy smile starts with knowledge… and we LOVE helping our patients learn how to protect theirs! 😁🪥
