🦷 "My dentist is recommending a bridge after an extraction. Do I really need it?"

Many patients are surprised to learn that when a tooth is removed and not replaced, the surrounding teeth can begin to shift over time.

Here's what can happen when a missing tooth is left untreated:

➡️ Neighboring teeth may drift into the empty space.
➡️ Opposing teeth can "super-erupt" (move down or up into the gap).
➡️ Changes in your bite can make chewing less efficient.
➡️ Increased wear and stress on remaining teeth.
➡️ Bone loss can occur in the area where the tooth was extracted.
➡️ Over time, these changes may lead to more extensive and costly dental treatment.

🦷 Tooth Extraction: Post-Op Care & When to Call Your Dentist 🦷

Just had a tooth removed? A little discomfort is normal, but proper care can help you heal faster and avoid complications!

✨ Post-Op Care Tips:
✅ Bite firmly on the gauze as instructed to help stop bleeding.
✅ Rest and take it easy for the first 24 hours.
✅ Use an ice pack on the outside of your cheek for 15-20 minutes at a time to help reduce swelling.
✅ Eat soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, soup (not too hot!), eggs, or smoothies eaten with a spoon.
✅ Keep taking any prescribed medications exactly as directed.

🚫 Avoid These Things:
❌ No smoking or va**ng.
❌ No straws—the suction can dislodge the blood clot and lead to a painful condition called dry socket.
❌ Avoid vigorous rinsing or spitting for the first 24 hours.
❌ Stay away from crunchy, spicy, or hard foods until your dentist says it's okay.

🚨 Call Your Dentist ASAP If You Notice:
🔴 Bleeding that won't stop after applying pressure with gauze.
🔴 Severe pain that gets worse after 2-3 days instead of improving.
🔴 Swelling that continues to worsen after 3 days or spreads to your eye or neck.
🔴 Fever or chills.
🔴 Pus or a bad taste/drainage coming from the extraction site.
🔴 Difficulty swallowing or breathing.
🔴 Numbness that does not improve after the anesthetic should have worn off.

💡 Remember: Every patient's healing process is different. If something doesn't feel right, don't ignore it—it's always better to call and ask!

🦷 "My dentist said I have a cavity, but it doesn't hurt... what's the worst that can happen?" 🤔

Unfortunately, cavities don't always hurt right away. 😬 In fact, many start silently and get bigger over time.

⚠️ Here's what can happen if a cavity is ignored:

🦠 The cavity grows deeper into the tooth
😖 Tooth sensitivity or severe pain can develop
💥 The tooth can crack or break
🩹 You may need a root canal and crown instead of a simple filling
🦷 In some cases, the tooth becomes infected and may need to be extracted

The good news? 💙
✨ Small cavities are usually easier, faster, and less expensive to treat than waiting until they become a bigger problem.
