One of the strangest parts of orthodontic treatment can be feeling like a tooth is a little loose.

That can be completely normal.

Braces and aligners gently move teeth through the bone, and during that process, teeth can temporarily feel more mobile than usual.

Once movement settles, the tissues around the tooth stabilize again.

If something feels unusually loose or painful, give us a call — but a little movement during treatment can simply mean things are moving. 🦷

Think braces or Invisalign are only for teenagers?

Not even close.

Adults choose orthodontic treatment for all kinds of reasons — improving their bite, addressing shifting teeth, preparing for restorative dental work or simply finally getting the smile they’ve always wanted.

There’s no expiration date on wanting a healthier smile. 💙

MYTH: Once your teeth are straight, you’re done.
FACT: Retainers are what help keep them that way.

Teeth can shift throughout life, which is why retainer wear is such an important part of protecting your orthodontic result.

If your retainer suddenly feels tight, doesn’t fit like it used to, or has been sitting in a drawer for a while, don’t wait too long to check on it. 💙

MYTH: You need to wait until all of your child’s permanent teeth are in before seeing an orthodontist.

FACT: The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation around age 7.

That doesn’t mean every 7-year-old needs braces.

It simply gives an orthodontist a chance to evaluate growth, tooth eruption and bite development — and determine whether treatment is needed now, later or not at all.

A few small habits can make a big difference when you’re wearing braces.

Try to avoid:
🧊 Chewing ice
✏️ Biting pens or pencils
🍿 Crunching popcorn kernels
🍬 Sticky candy
🥖 Biting directly into very hard foods
🤏 Picking at brackets or wires

Braces are built to do a lot — but they’re not indestructible.

A little care now can help keep treatment moving smoothly. 💙
