🐢💚 Our Nest #1 journey has officially come to an end and what an incredible journey it has been!

From 122 eggs beneath the sand to 109 little loggerheads making it to the Atlantic, we are so grateful to N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles) for welcoming Shoreline Orthodontics as their very first Corporate Adopt-A-Nest Sponsor and allowing us to experience every step along the way.

A huge thank you to the N.E.S.T. volunteers for the countless hours spent protecting our nest and for all the updates, photos, videos, and education they shared with us throughout the summer.

Through our Smiles for Turtles campaign, Shoreline donated a portion of proceeds from new patient treatment starts, while our patients and families joined us by contributing through our in-office donation jar. Together, we were able to present N.E.S.T. with an additional donation to support their continued conservation efforts. 💕

Thank you to everyone who made our first nesting season so special. One last smile for our turtles—and go make some waves, Nest #1 babies! 🌊🐢💚

🐢💚 Nest Update #2! 💚🐢

We're officially about halfway through the incubation journey for our sponsored loggerhead sea turtle nest!🥚

Here's the latest from N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles).:

✅ Nest #1 remains safe and secure.
✅ There has been no over wash, and the nest continues to incubate normally.
✅ Our 122 loggerhead hatchlings are hard at work growing beneath the sand!

Did you know? Around the halfway point of development, baby sea turtles begin developing the details of their shells and even grow a tiny "egg tooth" called a caruncle. This special little tool helps them break through their soft, leathery eggshell when it's time to hatch—and it falls off shortly after!

Although everything looks quiet on the beach, there's an incredible amount of activity happening beneath the sand every single day.

A huge thank you to the amazing volunteers at N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles) for monitoring and protecting our nest throughout the season. We can't wait to continue sharing updates as we get closer to hatchling season! 🐢💙
