At Maitland Rotary we reviewed the year of Mateo, the recipient of our Club’s exchange! He experienced the best of Central Florida and was able to visit Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia. He made terrific friends with the other exchange students and most of his High School class. He will travel to the West Coast of America before returning to Milan. This represents Rotary’s cultural exchange.

Many ask, I avoid the Sparkling Beverage.
Is Sparkling Water Bad for My Teeth?
glass of sparkling water

Is the satisfying fizz of your favorite sparkling water putting you at risk for tooth decay? Because any drink with carbonation—including sparkling water—has a higher acid level, some reports have questioned whether sipping sparkling water will weaken your tooth enamel (the hard outer shell of your teeth where cavities first form).
So, Is Sparkling Water Affecting My Teeth?

According to available research, sparkling water is generally fine for your teeth—and here's why. In a study using teeth that were removed as a part of treatment and donated for research, researchers tested to see whether sparkling water would attack tooth enamel more aggressively than regular lab water. The result? The two forms of water were about the same in their effects on tooth enamel. This finding suggests that, even though sparkling water is slightly more acidic than ordinary water, it's all just water to your teeth.
Tips for Enjoying Sparkling Water—and Protecting Your Teeth

Sparkling water is far better for your teeth than sugary drinks. In addition, be sure to drink plenty of regular, fluoridated water, too—it’s the best beverage for your teeth. Water with fluoride naturally helps fight cavities, washes away the leftover food cavity-causing bacteria feast on and keeps your mouth from becoming dry (which can put you at a higher risk of cavities).

Be mindful of what’s in your sparkling water. Citrus-flavored waters often have higher acid levels that does increase the risk of damage to your enamel. Plan to enjoy these in one sitting or with meals. This way, you aren’t sipping it throughout the day and exposing your teeth over and over again to the slightly higher level of acid it contains.

Sparkling water brands with added sugar can no longer be considered just sparkling water. They are a sugar-sweetened beverage, which can contribute to your risk of developing cavities. So remember—sparkling or not—plain water is always the best choice.

A study reported in the Journal of the American Dental As-sociation found that dentists had experienced a 2.6% cumu-lative COVID-19 infection rate as of November 2020, with monthly incidence rates ranging from 0.2% to 1.1% and averaging 0.5% over six months. This infection rate is far below that of other health care workers, such as physicians and nurses, ADA News reports.

To this writing, there are no reported cases of COVID transmission between and Dentist and patient. Our barriers work!

Even NASA wishes to reduce dental disease.

SpaceX to carry oral health research to space station
The SpaceX CRS-22 mission scheduled from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida will carry supplies for the International Space Station and materials for a research project that includes saliva and oral bacteria from dental clinic patients at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the ISS crew will use test kits developed by UNLV researchers to simulate bacterial growth on a tooth-like surface to help scientists study the development of oral biofilms that can lead to caries and gum disease. Colgate-Palmolive is a partner in the research project.

You have to appreciate what you are eating. and not just the view, aroma, and flavor. Remarkably, A study in JAMA Network Open found that 65% of restaurant meals for adults and 80% of those for children in 2018 had low nutritional value, as did 44% of adult meals and 52% of children's meals from food trucks and entertainment venues, CNN and United Press International report. Meanwhile, 24% of meals consumed by children from their schools were unhealthful, making schools the "single healthiest place Americans are eating," the researchers said.

Whole grains, dietary fiber may reduce lung cancer risk
Eating whole grains and increasing daily dietary fiber intake may lower the risk for lung cancer, a study in the journal Lung Cancer suggests. The findings, based on data from 113,096 individuals, also showed that higher intake of foods high in glycemic index and refined carbohydrates from processed foods was associated with higher risk for lung cancer, Medical Dialogues reports.
