When you’re packing your beach bag, you probably grab your sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. But are you forgetting your lips? 🤔
July is UV Safety Month, and we need to talk about a major sun protection blind spot.
Here is your quick lip safety checklist for the summer and beyond:
1️⃣ Swipe on SPF 30+: Regular lip balm won't cut it. Look for a broad-spectrum lip balm with SPF 30 or higher, and apply it 15 minutes before heading out.
2️⃣ Reapply Every 2 Hours: Just like your regular sunscreen, lip SPF wears off—especially when you eat, drink, or talk.
3️⃣ Skip the High-Shine Gloss: Standard, non-SPF lip glosses act like baby oil, magnifying the sun’s rays directly onto your lips. Put your SPF balm on first!
4️⃣ Wear a Wide-Brimmed Hat: A hat with a 3-inch brim blocks a massive amount of UV rays from reaching your face and lips.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Check your lips regularly. If you notice a sore that won’t heal, persistent rough or scaly patches, or a pale, white, or faded look on your lip line, don't wait- have a doctor or dentist check it out.
