There are dentists who are patient with scared kids because they were trained to be. 🤍

And then there is Dr. Iva.

Dr. Iva is a cancer survivor. Her daughter is too. She knows what it feels like to sit in a clinical chair and be afraid. To not know what comes next. To have someone approach you with instruments and have to decide — in that moment — whether to trust them.

She carries that with her into every single appointment.

When a child grips the armrest, when a little one can’t stop crying, when a parent holds their breath in the doorway — Dr. Iva doesn’t just manage the moment. She understands it. From somewhere most people never have to go.

That kind of compassion cannot be taught. It can only be lived.

We are so grateful she brings all of herself to this work. And so honored that the families who need her most find their way to her chair. 🤍

We wanted to highlight another one of our incredible interns. 🤍
Meet Abby.
Abby is studying at Notre Dame and came to Carter Smile this summer not just to learn the clinical side of dentistry — but to understand everything that lives beyond the procedure.
The way a team moves together. The way a child who walked in nervous walks out waving goodbye. The way a practice can feel like a community instead of just an office.
That’s what Abby came to see. And honestly? We think she’s seeing it.
There is so much to learn in a dental practice that never shows up in a textbook. The culture. The care. The hundred small decisions that make a family feel like they belong here. Abby has been soaking up every bit of it — and we love having her energy in this building.
