The Carter Smile team had such a great time at Bottle Hill Day in Madison this weekend. So many of our patients and families stopped by to say hello. It’s one of those wonderful reminders that what we do goes far beyond the walls of our office.

We’re incredibly grateful to be part of this community and to support an event that brings so many people together.

And we even had a special visit from the Mayor, who stopped by to present Carter Smile with a plaque thanking us for being a Silver Sponsor of Bottle Hill Day!

This past week has been one we will carry with us for a long time. And through all of it, the Carter Smile community showed up in a way that moved us deeply.

The kind words. The patience. The grace you extended to our team without being asked. It meant more than we know how to say.

Dr. Carter’s father was not just her dad. He was an orthodontist who shaped how she sees this work, how she built this practice, and how she shows up for every family who walks through our door. His influence lives in these walls. It always will.

We are so grateful to be surrounded by a community that understands that the people who take care of your family are people too. With families of their own. With love and loss just like yours.

This week, the entire Carter Smile community is holding Dr. Carter and her family close as they mourn the loss of her beloved father Dr. Robert W. Carter. With her permission, we’re honored to share Dr. Carter’s own words about the remarkable man he was and the lasting impact he had on her life:

It is with great sadness I share the passing of my father, Dr. Robert W. Carter on Saturday, September 19th. He lived a wonderfully full and happy life for 92 years before his heart ran out of miles. 💔

He was principled, kind and blessed with a life grounded in family, faith and service. He loved his family fiercely and was so proud of the life he built with my mother for 59 years. His said his “best decision was marrying my wife and my second was becoming an orthodontist”. He lived an ordinary life doing extraordinary things. He is now at peace.

I had the gift of spending time in his office from a young age before Bring Your Daughter to Work was a thing. I had the honor of working alongside him as an orthodontist for 15 years. It brought a new dimension to our relationship as we were now colleagues. We both learned so much from the other.

Without his strong example, positivity and mentorship Carter Smile would just be my dream. He encouraged me to take the risk and create an office built from my heart. I am so glad I did. He taught me through example to treat all our patients as if they were my own child and value my team as family. I could not ask for better life lessons. The chair behin
