25 years ago today, our world changed.

In the year following 9/11, Dr. Allison Adams served as a member of the NJ Disaster Victim’s Recovery Team, working alongside forensic dentists and other dental professionals at the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office to help identify victims of the World Trade Center attacks.

The experience left memories and lessons that remain vivid 25 years later—about service, teamwork, compassion and the importance of helping families find closure.

Today we remember those who were lost, their families, the first responders and everyone who stepped forward to serve.

We will never forget.

Adams Dental has been a longtime supporter of the Madison Chatham Coalition (MCC), with Dr. Adams serving as a coalition member. MCC is an organization focused on teen substance use prevention in the communities of Madison and Chatham.

We wanted to share a helpful resource MCC recently put together for parents and caregivers. These “cheat sheets” cover important topics concerning teens, including binge drinking, va**ng, ma*****na, and oral ni****ne pouches, with information to help parents recognize potential risks and start meaningful conversations.

We have copies available in our office for patients and families to take home.

At a growth and development visit, we look beyond cavities and cleanings. We take time to understand how your child’s mouth is functioning and how it connects to breathing, sleep, feeding, and overall development.
We observe things like nasal breathing, tongue mobility, palate shape, jaw growth, tooth spacing, swallowing, chewing, tonsils, and oral habits. These small signs can give us valuable insight into how a child is growing.
The goal is not to find problems in every child. It’s about understanding development early, supporting healthy patterns, and guiding families when needed.

It can help calm your nervous system, encourage slower breathing, and support healthier nasal airflow. Try it the next time you’re feeling stressed: breathe in through your nose, hum gently as you exhale, and repeat for a minute or two.
