πŸŽ“πŸ¦· Congratulations to Baylor! πŸŽ“πŸ¦·

We would like to congratulate Dr. Scott's daughter, Baylor, on graduating from Mercer University with a major in chemistry and a minor in business.

Baylor plans to attend dental school in the fall of 2027, but this summer, she'll be working alongside her dad in the dental office, learning the tricks of the trade one smile at a time. ✨

What an exciting journey ahead! Wishing Baylor continued success, happiness, and many bright opportunities in the years to come.πŸͺ₯πŸ’™πŸŽ‰

From bleeding gums to heart attack and stroke β€” the silent disease millions ignore

This is not fear-mongering.
This is medical reality.

An untreated gum infection can damage far more than your smile β€” it can affect your heart, brain, and entire body.
What starts as mild bleeding or bad breath can progress into a chronic inflammatory disease with life-threatening consequences.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
WHAT IS GUM DISEASE, REALLY?

Gum disease is not just β€œweak gums” or poor brushing.

It is a chronic bacterial infection.
Dental plaque accumulates along the gum line.

Bacteria trigger inflammation, causing the gums to swell, bleed, and detach from the teeth.

As the disease progresses:
β€’ Gums pull away
β€’ Deep periodontal pockets form
β€’ Bone supporting the teeth begins to dissolve

This condition is known as periodontitis β€” and it is irreversible.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
WHEN GUM DISEASE IS NO LONGER β€œJUST ORAL”

Inflamed gums bleed easily.
This allows oral bacteria to enter the bloodstream repeatedly, every day β€” during chewing, brushing, or even speaking.

Once in circulation, these bacteria and inflammatory mediators can:
β€’ Damage blood vessels
β€’ Promote plaque formation in arteries
β€’ Trigger systemic inflammation

At this stage, gum disease becomes a whole-body disease.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
SERIOUS AND LIFE-THREATENING COMPLICATIONS

Advanced gum disease has been strongly linked to:
β€’ Heart attack and atherosclerosis
β€’ Stroke
β€’ Infective endocarditis
β€’ Poor diabetes control
β€’ Adverse pregnancy outcomes
β€’ Increased risk of dementia
β€’ Systemic inflammation and immune overload

These links are well documented in medical and dental research.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
THE BIGGEST DANGER: IT OFTEN DOESN’T HURT

Gum disease is usually painless.
Many people ignore early signs like:
β€’ Bleeding when brushing
β€’ Chronic bad breath
β€’ Gum recession
β€’ Loose teeth

Pain often appears only when damage is severe β€” when bone loss is already advanced.

By then, tooth loss and systemic impact may be unavoidable.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
PREVENTION IS SIMPLE β€” AND PROTECTIVE

Preventing gum disease protects both your mouth and your vital organs:
β€’ Proper brushing twice daily
β€’ Daily flossing or interdental cleaning
β€’ Professional dental cleanings
β€’ Early treatment of gum inflammation
β€’ Regular dental check-ups, even without pain

Healthy gums are not cosmetic.
They are a medical necessity.
