🦷 Arizona hygienists: Your membership helps shape what comes next for our profession.

The way we practice is shaped by laws, policies, and the people who show up to influence them. AZDHA shows up for dental hygienists, and membership helps keep that work moving.

Your membership dues help pay for advocacy efforts that protect our profession and push for progress. Your support gives Arizona hygienists a stronger collective voice when decisions are made about our careers and the patients we serve.

📣 What does that advocacy look like?

✅ Recognition of our clinical expertise. AZDHA backed legislation to include dental hygiene assessment and dental hygiene treatment planning in our scope. Arizona law now recognizes these services as components of a dentist’s diagnosis and treatment plan.

✅ Protecting our voice in professional regulation. AZDHA opposed a proposal that would have removed a requirement for the Dental Board to seek input on matters affecting dental hygienists. That proposal was stopped in 2023.

✅ Advocacy for greater access and professional autonomy. Arizona’s affiliated practice model allows eligible hygienists to provide care in approved community settings under a written agreement, without a dentist physically present or a prior dental examination unless the agreement requires it. These opportunities show why continued advocacy for practice advancement matters.

🤝 Membership also connects you with continuing education, professional resources, leadership opportunities, and colleagues who care about the future of dental hygiene.

And we are still working toward more.

AZDHA continues efforts to expand practice opportunities and fight for greater independence for dental hygienists. That takes sustained effort, funding, engaged members, and strong membership numbers. We need hygienists who join, renew, respond to calls to action, and make their voices heard.
