๐ ๐ The Hidden MB2: Why Magnification Matters in Modern Endodontics
One of the most commonly missed anatomical variations in maxillary molars is the MB2 (mesiobuccal-2) canal โ and locating it can be critical for long-term endodontic success.
Successful root canal treatment depends on identifying, cleaning, disinfecting, and sealing the entire root canal system. In many maxillary molars, the mesiobuccal root contains a second canal that can be extremely narrow, calcified, and difficult to detect without advanced magnification, illumination, troughing techniques, ultrasonics, and clinical experience.
In this case, enhanced visualization under magnification allowed identification and treatment of the MB2 canal within the mesiobuccal root system.
Studies have demonstrated that MB2 canals are present far more frequently than historically appreciated when advanced detection methods are utilized.
