Today marks 5 years since I took over the dental practice from Dr. Wilson! As I celebrate today, I look back through the 11 years we’ve worked together, all the way back to day 1. I’m feeling thankful for his mentorship, our wonderful team, and the many patients who have supported us and supported me as I’ve gradually made changes to the office. The past 5 years have brought an office makeover, new technology and expanded procedures, new team members, and lots of excitement and passion for the field of dentistry. I can’t wait to see what the next 5 years brings!

Breaking a front tooth can be scary! Our front teeth are the ones we show when we smile, the ones we see every day in the mirror, and the ones that make us feel like us.

BUT, a broken front tooth can be a little less scary when we know there are conservative options to restore them back to their size, shape, and color.

This tooth was restored with a single resin veneer. Some may call this “bonding” but it’s so much more than that! A hand layered resin veneer recreates the color variations that make a tooth unique. The result is a tooth the blends in with the other teeth and looks like it was never broken in the first place!

***Single tooth 🦷 dentistry***

Matching a single central incisor is one of the hardest things to get right in dentistry. But, this single tooth crown replacement turned out to be a slam dunk! Before, even people who don’t know anything about teeth were sure to know #8 was fake. Now, thanks to great DSLR camera photos, the use of cross-polarization filters, and great lab communication, the new crown blends in seamlessly with the rest of the teeth and doesn’t draw the eye. 🙌

Celebrating another glow-up with replacement resin veneers! We masked dark teeth, hid margins, created a high polish and leveled gum contours to create a more beautiful and natural looking smile. This one was a labor of love that turned out gorgeous!

This case a was a fun one! Years of erosion, chipping and staining left these teeth in a less than ideal state. Full coverage restorations were selected due to the extent of erosion and used to restore the entire mouth back to harmony. We started by leveling out the plane of the lower teeth, then opened the vertical bite to make room for longer, more esthetic upper teeth. Better esthetics, better form, better function.

Now that’s something to smile about!

What a great weekend it was at my 2nd conference with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Aventura, FL! The education was phenomenal and the people are inspiring.

I had the honor of introducing Dr. John Weston in my first course of the weekend about minimal/no prep porcelain veneers, soaked up everything I could about the Marshall Hanson Method from its namesake, studied proper porcelain veneer cementation protocols with Dr. Jason Olitsky, and practiced injectable composite techniques lead by Dr. Sandra Hulac.

We closed out the weekend with an abundance of information from Dr. Miguel Stanley, who wasn’t afraid to challenge the way many of us think about dentistry.

Congrats to the newly accredited dentists and Fellows of the Association! It was great seeing you all walking around with big medals and big smiles, especially .lance.dillon, who was with me in the first ever study club I did with the AACD a few years ago. I hope to follow in your footsteps soon!

It was so much fun meeting new friends and reconnecting with existing friends and mentors. See you all again next year!

We are so excited to welcome Naila back to our team full-time! She was an assistant with our office for 3 years prior to starting hygiene school and stayed in and out during her schooling. Now that’s she graduated as a dental hygienist, she will be able to take her own patients, provide them with her care and compassion, and educate them with her new knowledge.

Naila is accepting new and returning patients to her hygiene schedule. Call to schedule with her today!

So proud of my girl when she bravely asked me to pull 3 of her loose baby teeth within 2 weeks. I was happy to oblige to create this cutie smile. I was prouder, still, when she decided the teeth were “so cute” that she wanted to keep them and she hid them from the tooth fairy! 🧚🏽 Girl, yes they are cute! I couldn’t agree more.

I love watching the changes in kids’ smiles, both in my own kids and in our patients. They are a reminder of how amazing the human body is! This process of losing and growing teeth is so natural, even if we sometimes help the loose ones along. The new teeth coming in still have the little humps on the edges before time and life wears them down. Have you ever noticed that??

We love to see kids in our office. I find it can be very convenient for parents to bring them along for their own appointments and get their teeth checked and cleaned all in one trip.

Our office is lucky to be expanding and adding a new hygienist very soon! If you like the idea of bringing your kids along for your appointment, too, call to schedule them with our new hygienist.

Let’s take some time to appreciate the artistry in this case. A single tooth that was just a little dark and a little small needed only a slight upgrade to be more harmonious with the other teeth in the smile. Using a minimal preparation technique, a single conservative feldspathic porcelain veneer was made to mimic the translucency and white spots of the surrounding teeth. These characterizations in the veneer reproduce nature better than the natural tooth did! The result is a veneer you’d never know was there if you didn’t see the “before” photo right next to it. I’d say that’s a win!

This case is a great example that cosmetic dentistry doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul.
