Breakfast first, then it’s time to brush! The AAPD recommends brushing after breakfast and before bed as part of your child’s daily routine. If breakfast includes something acidic, like citrus fruit or orange juice, avoid brushing right away and give their saliva a little time to help protect the enamel. Then, brush with fluoride toothpaste, and they’ll be ready to start the day with a clean, healthy smile!

Giving their smile breaks between meals and snacks, rather than grazing throughout the day, gives saliva time to do its job and help protect their teeth!

Does your child’s toothbrush look worn out long before it’s time for a new one? Frayed or flattened bristles can sometimes be a sign that they’re brushing with more pressure than they need. A gentle touch with a soft-bristled toothbrush is enough to clean those little teeth! Show your child how to use small, gentle motions so their toothbrush and their smile get a little extra TLC.
