ROOT CANAL INFECTION is not the same thing as ROOT CANAL TREATMENT. 🦷

That distinction matters.

❌ Root canals do not cause pancreatic cancer.
❌ Root canal treatment does not increase systemic inflammation.

An infected tooth can.

When a tooth is infected and needs a root canal, systemic inflammatory markers like CRP (C reactive protein) can be elevated.

Treat the infection → CRP goes DOWN.
Remove the bacteria → inflammation goes DOWN.
Keep the tooth → bone can heal and remodel around it.

The infection is the problem.
The root canal is the treatment.

We have to stop confusing the disease with the procedure used to treat it.

Keeping this one simple because it should be simple.

And credit where credit is due, inspired by Josh who does an awesome job breaking these topics down clearly. 👏🏼 follow him he’a awesome 😎

There is no one size fits all approach to dentistry, especially when it comes to anxiety, special needs, and complex treatment.

Oral conscious sedation can be an incredible tool for patients with mild to moderate dental anxiety. It typically involves medications such as benzodiazepines to help patients feel deeply relaxed while remaining conscious and able to respond.

But for some patients, oral sedation simply isn’t enough.

That’s where general anesthesia can completely change what is possible in dentistry.

Meet Dr. Kim, our board certified anesthesiologist, who works alongside me and our other providers at our LA offices. She is incredible at what she does, and our patients absolutely love her. Her role allows us to safely care for patients who otherwise may have an extremely difficult or even impossible time receiving the dental treatment they need.

We have worked together on patients with debilitating dental phobia, significant anxiety, complex medical or behavioral considerations, and special needs, including patients with conditions such as cerebral palsy.

The goal is never to sedate someone simply because dentistry is uncomfortable. Our first approach is always patience, gentleness, communication, and creating an environment where patients feel heard and cared for. We’re often told that the amount of attention we give to a patient’s individual needs feels very different from dental experiences they’ve had before.

But when anxiety, physical limitations, special needs, or the complexity of treatment requires another level of support, having a board certified anesthesiologist as part of the dental team can be invaluable.

Because sometimes providing exceptional dentistry starts with making it possible for someone to receive dentistry at all.

Are you a “Holistic” dentist?

One of the biggest marketing trends I’m seeing is fear based dentistry. Patients are being told that root canals are “toxic,” titanium implants are poisoning their bodies, the fluoride in your toothpaste is dangerous, and dental X rays cause cancer. None of these claims are supported by high quality scientific evidence when these treatments are used appropriately and don’t give me your free “science” articles from someone’s online blogs. I need real evidence based science.

Let’s talk about dental X rays for a second. A full set of digital dental radiographs exposes you to only a tiny fraction of the radiation you’re naturally exposed to every day being in sunlight. In fact, you receive more radiation simply living on Earth from the sun, soil, air, and even taking a flight than you do from routine dental imaging. Modern digital sensors use such low doses that the ADA no longer recommends routine lead aprons for most patients because they provide no meaningful benefit.

The real danger isn’t the X ray. The real danger is what you don’t see without one.

Cavities between teeth, bone loss, cysts, abscesses, failing root canals, cracked teeth, impacted teeth, and even some tumors can progress silently for months or years before causing pain. By the time you feel something, treatment is often more invasive, more expensive, and sometimes the tooth can’t be saved.

And before someone says, “Dentists just want to make money on X rays,” let’s be real. In our office, we don’t even charge patients for them it’s part of the exam. Insurance reimbursement is minimal to non existent. We take radiographs because they are an essential diagnostic tool, not a profit center.

Question everything, including what I say. But make sure the answers come from well designed scientific studies, not fear based marketing. Your health deserves evidence, not headlines.

If you snore, this is something worth looking into.

This is our Solea laser snore treatment Convergent Dental Patterson Dental . There are no injections, no cutting, and no downtime. We use a little topical spray, and most patients don’t even need nitrous. This patient was a little anxious, so we used nitrous simply to help her relax, not because the procedure is painful.

The laser gently tightens the soft tissue in the back of the throat, helping reduce the vibration that causes snoring. Many patients notice a difference after just one treatment, but for the best results we typically recommend a series of three.

One thing I always tell my patients is that this isn’t a permanent cure. Your soft tissues naturally change over time, and weight gain can increase tissue collapse, so maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an important part of long term success.

Most patients come back every 6 to 8 months for a quick maintenance treatment. Over time, many find they need treatments less often, and some only come back once a year.

It’s one of the simplest, most affordable treatments we offer, and it can make a huge difference for both you and the person sleeping next to you.

Have questions? Give us a call to schedule a consult to see if this treatment is right for you.

One of the questions I get all the time is, “Wait… you’re fixing my cavity without a shot?” 🤯

Yep, in many cases we don’t even need to numb the tooth.

Here’s why. The Solea CO2 laser doesn’t work like a traditional drill that creates pressure, vibration, and friction. Instead, it uses a very precise beam of light that targets the decayed part of the tooth so quickly that the nerve often doesn’t have time to send those painful signals to your brain. That means many patients are comfortable without anesthesia, and they can leave without that numb feeling in their lips or face.

Not every cavity can be treated this way, but for the right patient, it’s honestly a game changer.

We invested in Solea because we believe going to the dentist shouldn’t be something you dread. Technology should make treatment more comfortable, more precise, and less stressful.

Once you experience laser dentistry, it’s hard to imagine going back. Convergent Dental

One of my favorite Invisalign Invisalign transformations.

This patient came in with an underbite, and in just a few months we were able to completely change her bite and her smile. The results were incredible, but I want to point out something that’s often overlooked.

Cases like this happen because of two things.

First, a provider who understands how to move teeth safely and efficiently.

Second, and just as important, a patient who is 100% committed to wearing their aligners.

Invisalign only works if you wear it. That’s the secret.

For more advanced cases like underbites and crossbites, we sometimes use special techniques. In this case, the patient wore elastics, and we even had her keep the aligners in while eating during certain phases of treatment. The elastics came out for meals, but the trays stayed in. Every case is different, and sometimes these little details make a huge difference.

A lot of people think Invisalign Invisalign can only fix minor crowding. That’s simply not true. Underbites, crossbites, overbites, open bites, and many complex orthodontic problems can often be treated very successfully with Invisalign when the case is planned correctly and the patient stays compliant.

Now, if someone knows they won’t wear their aligners as instructed, traditional braces are still an outstanding option. Braces continue working 24 hours a day because they’re bonded to the teeth, and they remain an essential part of orthodontics.

The best treatment isn’t about choosing Invisalign versus braces. It’s about choosing the right treatment for the right patient.

This patient trusted the process, stayed disciplined, and the results speak for themselves.

What do you think? Would you have guessed this was done with Invisalign?

One of the most common questions we get is: “Do I need dental insurance?”

The answer isn’t always yes.

For many people, especially if you’re self-employed, own a business, are retired, or your employer doesn’t offer dental benefits, buying a standalone dental insurance plan may not be your best value. Unlike medical insurance, dental insurance often comes with annual maximums, waiting periods, exclusions, and percentage-based coverage that can make it difficult to know exactly what you’ll pay.

That’s why we created the TruGLO Membership Plan.

After studying countless membership programs across the country, we designed ours to provide the benefits patients actually use without the guesswork. It’s transparent, straightforward, and built to make high-quality dentistry more affordable.

We offer two membership options because every smile has different needs:

🦷 Basic Membership – Perfect for patients with healthy gums who want to stay on top of preventive care.

🦷 Prime Membership – Designed for patients who need more frequent maintenance or ongoing periodontal care.

Today, thousands of patients have chosen our membership because they appreciate knowing exactly what they’re getting. No confusing claims. No wondering what insurance will or won’t cover. Just exceptional care with exclusive savings and predictable costs.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated trying to understand your dental benefits, ask us whether a TruGLO Membership is a better fit for you. We’d be happy to help you compare your options and choose what makes the most sense for your smile.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see online is that veneers require your teeth to be shaved down into tiny pegs. In reality, that isn’t how veneers are typically done when treatment is carefully planned.

A lot of the dramatic “before” photos you see are often associated with dental tourism. When someone is traveling for treatment, the dentist may only have a very limited window to prepare the teeth, fabricate the restorations, and make sure everything seats before the patient flies home. A more aggressive preparation can make seating the restorations more predictable when there isn’t an opportunity for multiple try-ins or adjustments after the patient returns home.

But that’s not the same as saying all veneers require that much tooth reduction.

Modern veneer materials are incredibly strong, thin, and versatile. Whether we’re using feldspathic porcelain, lithium disilicate (e.max), or translucent zirconia, each material has its own indications based on your tooth color, bite, enamel thickness, grinding habits, and cosmetic goals not because one is “better” than another.

In many well-selected cases, veneers require only minimal enamel reduction, and sometimes even less than people imagine. The goal is always to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible while creating a restoration that fits beautifully, seals properly, and will last.

The best veneer isn’t determined by what’s trending on social media. It’s determined by your biology, your bite, your smile, and choosing the right material for your teeth.

Which veneer material is the best?

The answer is… it depends.

There isn’t one “best” veneer material because every smile is different. Choosing the right one is like an architect choosing the right building material, you don’t build every house the same way.

When I’m designing a smile, I’m looking at things like:
🦷 The natural color of your teeth.
🦷 The shape and size of your teeth.
🦷 Whether your teeth are crowded or already well aligned.
🦷 How you bite comes together.
🦷 Whether you clench or grind.
🦷 Whether we’re changing your bite or simply enhancing your smile.
🦷 How much of your natural tooth needs to be preserved.

That’s why veneer treatment is never “one size fits all.”

The three most common materials each have a purpose:

Translucent Zirconia – Extremely strong and excellent when we need to mask darker teeth or design a smile for someone who puts a lot of force on their teeth.

E.max – A beautiful balance of strength and esthetics. It’s a fantastic option when the underlying tooth color is favorable and you’re looking for a very natural result.

Feldspathic Porcelain – The artist’s material. A lot more expensive because it is hand made by an actual@ceramic artist. It’s handcrafted in layers to create incredible depth, texture, and lifelike detail, making it ideal for highly cosmetic cases with minimal changes. These are highly skill sensitive and delicate.

Even the amount of tooth preparation isn’t the same for every patient. Different materials, different smile designs, and different clinical situations may require different preparation techniques. The goal is always the same: preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible while creating a smile that is beautiful, functional, and built to last.

The best veneer isn’t a specific material! it’s the one that’s chosen specifically for you.
