I never thought I’d live long enough to see America approaching its 250th year.
When I wore the uniform, I understood service in a simple way — show up, do your duty, look after the men and women beside you, and carry the weight even when it’s heavy. Back then, we didn’t think about history. We thought about the next mission, the next call, the next sunrise we hoped we’d all see together.
Now, years later, I look at this country differently.
Not as something perfect — because it never has been — but as something worth standing for. Worth sacrificing for. Worth believing in, even when it’s complicated.
I’ve seen what America asks of its people, and I’ve also seen what its people are capable of giving back. Strength. Resilience. And a kind of quiet loyalty you only understand when you’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with someone who has your life in their hands, just as you have theirs.
As we move toward America’s 250th year, I don’t think about celebration alone.
I think about remembrance.
Of those who came before us.
Of those who didn’t make it home.
Of those still carrying invisible weight long after the uniform comes off.
This flag on my wall isn’t just decoration. It’s a reminder. Of where I’ve been, who I served with, and what this country has meant to my life — even in its hardest moments.
If you’ve ever served, supported someone who served, or simply tried to do right by your family and your community, then you understand what this moment means.
250 years is not just history.
It’s a story still being written — by all of us.
God bless this country, and the people who keep it standing.
