Two teeth restored. No root canals in this case.

You saw the cavities in our last post. Now see how Dr. David Hakham restored both teeth with conservative biomimetic dentistry.

Tooth 1 had extensive tooth decay and was saved with a porcelain overlay. Tooth 2 was restored with composite resin. Dr. Hakham’s clinical assessment found that both pulps were healthy and vital, so neither tooth received root canal treatment.

The answer to our previous choices was D) Other Treatment. Severe tooth damage does not automatically mean extraction. Dr. Hakham was able to preserve and restore Tooth 1 in this case.

Our Montebello dental office serves patients from Montebello and Los Angeles who are interested in careful evaluation and conservative dentistry.

In our last post, we asked how you would treat these two teeth. Here is how Dr. David Hakham restored them with conservative biomimetic dentistry.

Tooth 1 had extensive tooth decay and was preserved and restored with a porcelain overlay. Tooth 2 was restored with composite resin.

Dr. Hakham’s clinical assessment found that both pulps were still healthy and vital. Neither tooth received root canal treatment.

The reveal: D) Other Treatment. A porcelain overlay for Tooth 1 and composite resin for Tooth 2, with no root canals in this case.

Conservative dentistry means choosing care for each tooth based on the damage, the suitable remaining structure, and the condition of the pulp. These photographs show how that approach preserved both natural teeth.

Notice the wear on this night guard? Those repeated grinding contacts could be damaging unprotected teeth.

In our previous post, Dr. Hakham explained how a custom night guard’s guiding ramps work. The green arrow photos show the ramps before wear. The red arrow photos show visible wear after grinding contacts, on both the right and left sides.

In this example, Dr. Hakham identifies grinding wear around the guard’s canine guiding ramps and an adjacent contact area. A night guard for teeth grinding places a protective contact surface between the teeth. Grinding can continue, so the guard may gradually wear down even while it helps protect natural teeth.

Teeth grinding at night, also called sleep bruxism, can contribute to tooth wear, chips, and cracks. The guard material can be replaced, but the amount of plastic wear does not tell us exactly how much tooth damage was prevented.

A worn night guard needs review. Dr. Hakham checks the fit, bite contacts, and guiding ramps, then considers adjustment, repair, or replacement when appropriate. A guard that still fits may still need attention.

Dr. Hakham offers conservative care and custom night guard evaluations for patients in Montebello and the Los Angeles area.

Watch what happens to the back teeth as the jaw moves sideways.

The featured night guard for teeth grinding has a hard biting surface and full arch coverage. Dr. Hakham adjusts contacts across both sides when closing. As the jaw slides, a lower canine follows a ramp on the upper guard, allowing the back teeth to separate from it.

Balanced contacts when closing. Canine guidance and posterior disclusion when sliding. This is the intended pattern for the guard shown here.

A night guard helps protect teeth from grinding damage; grinding may continue. The design is selected for your teeth and supporting tissues, and regular checks help identify wear or changes.

Dr. David Hakham offers custom night guards for teeth grinding in Montebello, with a careful evaluation of fit, bite contacts, and jaw movement.

Two teeth with large cavities. How would you treat each one?

This post takes you through the Top View and Side View of each tooth. In the combined Top View, Tooth 2 is on the left and Tooth 1 is on the right.

Consider these discussion choices:

A) Extract Tooth 1 and Replace with Dental Implant
B) Root Canal, Post, and Crown on Tooth 1 or Both Teeth
C) Crown with No Root Canal Treatment
D) Other Treatment

For patients in Montebello and Los Angeles, conservative dentistry includes preserving natural tooth structure when clinically appropriate. The individual tooth and patient guide the recommendation.

The follow up will show the after treatment photos and explain Dr. Hakham’s choices.

What would you choose for Tooth 1 and Tooth 2, and why?

Would you choose the same treatment for both teeth?

Take a closer look at these two neighboring back teeth from Dr. Hakham’s dental office in Montebello.

Which approach would you expect for each tooth?

A) Extract Tooth 1 and Replace with Dental Implant
B) Root Canal, Post, and Crown on Tooth 1 or Both Teeth
C) Crown with No Root Canal Treatment
D) Other Treatment

You do not need dental training to join the discussion. β€œI’m not sure” is welcome too.

Photos alone cannot establish a treatment plan. Dr. Hakham also considers nerve health, the examination, X-rays when indicated, bite forces, and remaining healthy tooth structure.

The after treatment photos and Dr. Hakham’s explanation are coming next week.

A night guard for teeth grinding should be checked for how you close AND how you slide.

In the featured hard stabilization guard, full arch coverage and an adjusted biting surface help spread the bite load across the arch when closing. During sideways movement, a canine tooth follows a ramp on the guard so the back teeth separate from its surface.

A night guard helps protect your teeth; it does not necessarily stop the grinding itself.

Dr. David Hakham offers custom night guards for teeth grinding in Montebello, with a careful evaluation of fit, bite contacts, and jaw movement.

Custom fit, clinical adjustment, and regular checks work together. Bring your guard to dental visits, and contact Dr. Hakham if it causes pain or a persistent bite change. Have you ever had your night guard checked while moving your jaw sideways?

Did you know? Some sugar free drinks can still be acidic.

Bacteria use sugar to make acids that can contribute to cavities. Acids already present in a drink can contribute to enamel erosion. Diet soda, some zero sugar sports drinks, and citrus flavored sparkling drinks may be acidic, but formulas differ. Plain sparkling water is generally fine for teeth.

Sipping less often, enjoying acidic drinks with meals, and rinsing with water can help reduce exposure. Call Dr. Hakham in Montebello if you have questions about your enamel.

Did you know? Sleep teeth grinding can happen without you realizing it.

Morning jaw tightness, headaches, and worn tooth edges are possible clues, but each can have more than one cause. Dr. Hakham examines the teeth and jaw before recommending care. If a custom night guard is appropriate, it may help separate and protect the teeth during sleep.

Dr. David Hakham is a top choice for patients concerned about teeth grinding at night in Montebello, offering a careful evaluation and a custom night guard when appropriate to help protect their teeth.
