Today, ICV’s SSTI program hosted a Unity Day: Anti-Bullying booth throughout Diego Rivera high school’s lunch periods. At the center of the campus quad, students had the opportunity to win prizes after signing a role sheet and spinning a wheel that landed on a number from 1-10, each followed by its own question.

Students answered questions asked by Program Coordinator and Workshop Facilitator Jaime Vega that ranged from what defines bullying, to who they’d speak to either on or off-campus if they were getting bullied, and walked away with a prize of their choice—from pens, to squishies or squeaky toys. The students were also given the opportunity to write a one word or phrase in response to the three different prompts written on poster papers.

ICV stands against bullying and works to educate the youth on spotting signs of oppression that may jeopardize one’s well-being and on being a friend to others.

See something, say something.

[Post 3/3] To conclude the day, outside awaited a resource fair with different programs each offering their services to anyone interested. Along with the resource booths were food trucks, a paleta stand, photo booth, flower bouquet-making stationšŸ’, a stage to announce the winners of the conference’s raffle and a tote-bag pickup for the girls who collected all stamps from the resource booths.

At Inner City Visions’ booth, guests were informed about our different programs and services and had their turn to spin a wheel where they could win one of our various prizes, from headbands to face masks. If the wheel landed on activity, participants had the opportunity to take a Polaroid and decorate their own frame with our provided charms! šŸŽ€ā˜®ļø

[Post 1/3] Yesterday October 10, marked the 12th annual Girls Empowerment Conference, a free event where girls from the ages of 12-18 were invited to learn more about girlhood and sisterhood, and listen to motivational speeches from women who were in their exact shoes.

Hosted by the County of Los Angeles Parks & Recreation, in collaboration with LA County Dept. of Youth Development, LA County Public Health, Mental Health and Probation, the conference held space for girls to thrive through different activities and team bonding at the East Los Angeles College campus.

On arrival, the girls were provided breakfast and had the opportunity to get their hair braided, take pictures in the photo booth, make keychains and more before transitioning to the auditorium. During the opening ceremony, the girls pumped up their energy by cheering on the Versa Style dance team’s number. They were then greeted by a warm message from Parks & Recreation Director Norma Edith GarcĆa-Gonzalez before welcoming the keynote speaker Denise Jones, who shared her story of success as a woman of color from Compton.

When the ceremony concluded, the girls made their way to ELAC’s E building for the workshop sessions.

Yesterday, October 1st, the Homeless Outreach Program of Inner City Visions was invited to participate in sharing their resources at the City of Huntington Park’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month event. 🩷

The event dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer highlighted survivor testimonials and gave room to honor loved ones. It was an opportunity to speak about the importance of early detection. Health literacy is a vital factor for one’d wellbeing and development.

ICV’s Homeless Outreach Program understands the importance of health awareness, and that it does not come as accessible to everyone. At their table, program team members shared information about the services they provide for those who have a more difficult time accessing aid.

It’s important that we help our community become aware of our different services and our ambitions to help others. šŸ’™
