20 years since September 11, 2001.

So much has happened since that time. My fellow
Army Dentists and I treated thousands of servicemen
and women on their way to Afghanistan.

Did you know that frequent snacking can increase your risk of cavities? 😱

✅Every time you eat or drink, 🥤🍬bacteria in your mouth makes acid ➡️acid attacks your enamel➡️makes it weak ➡️increasing your risk of cavities (tooth decay)!

TRY THIS 👇🏾
✅eat fruits like apples 🍎and pears. Raw veggies🥦 & nuts are great too.
✅limit the number of snacks you eat between meals (trust, it is a daily struggle for me too 🙋🏾‍♀️especially during COVID) 🤪
✅chew sugar free gum when you're done!

Floss like a boss! Forming new habits is challenging! I don't expect my patients to go from never flossing to flossing every day.

✅Start out by flossing 1x per week. Eventually you can work your way up to every other day. Then daily and you've formed a habit!

✅I think of flossing like showering. We do it daily (mostly 😅), it's part of our routine and at some point we don't even need to think about it, we just do it!

✅Break it down into baby steps. Don't beat yourself up and celebrate the little victories!

The first thing people say when I tell them I'm a dentist is "Oh! Dentists have the highest su***de rate!'" 🤭

👎🏾One negative aspect of dentistry is the unfavorable public perception of dentists. 🔥Burnout is a very real thing and it can be tough being in a career where patients have deep rooted phobias

🧘🏾‍♀️Don't forget to practice self care, surround yourself with good people (or dogs), meditate and seek help when you need it.

I love my job as a mobile dentist! I get to help low income children throughout LAUSD. Sadly, Racial/ethnic differences in children’s dental health are common in the United States. Among children aged 2 to 11 years, Black children and Hispanic children are more likely to have decayed teeth and untreated dental problems than are White children. I’m doing my part to change this inequity.
