🦷 Fun Fact Thursday!

Dr. Vaswani loves chewing gum — and there can actually be a dental benefit! 😄

Chewing sugar-free gum helps stimulate saliva, which can neutralize acids, wash away food debris, and support a healthier oral environment after meals.

One tip from Dr. Vaswani: 🍓🍋 watch the fruity flavors! Even when they're sugar-free, fruit-flavored gums may contain acidic ingredients that can temporarily lower the pH in your mouth.

Her pick? Stick with a non-fruity, sugar-free gum — bonus points for xylitol! 🫧🦷

From Cal Pre-Dental Society to dentists all these years later! 🦷💙

Dr. Vaswani and Dr. Christina Lin have known each other since their undergrad days at UC Berkeley, when they were both part of the Cal Pre-Dental Society.

So much has changed since then, but it’s pretty special to still be learning together years later. Go Bears! 🐻💙💛

Dental fillings are designed to restore both the look and the function of your teeth. By repairing a tooth early, you help protect it from future issues while also keeping your smile balanced and natural. Modern materials make it possible for fillings to blend in so that only you and your dentist know they’re there.

Taking care of your smile means addressing small concerns before they grow into bigger problems. When you need a dental filling, it’s not just about repairin...

🦷 Fun Fact Thursday!

Did you know tooth enamel can’t grow back once it’s lost?

But there’s good news: in the very early stages of tooth decay, minerals from saliva and fluoride can help remineralize and strengthen weakened enamel — sometimes stopping a cavity before it actually forms.

Another reason prevention (and catching things early!) matters✨

💗 A little dental tribute to Dolly.

Yesterday we lost the incomparable Dolly Parton — an icon whose talent, humor, generosity, and larger-than-life personality brought joy to generations.

In our office, Dolly even has a tiny (unofficial!) place in dentistry. Dr. Vaswani has always called the hu**ed Tofflemire band the “Dolly Parton band” — and if you know what it looks like, you probably know why. 😊

It’s one of those silly little dental nicknames that has stuck over the years, and today it feels especially fitting to give credit to the woman who inspired it.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the laughter, and for always being unapologetically yourself. 💗🦷

🦷 A weekend well spent at the Bay Area Dental Expo!

Dr. Shah and Dr. Vaswani spent the weekend learning, exploring what’s new in dentistry, and of course… couldn’t pass up a photo with a giant tooth. 😄

Always learning. Always growing. 💙

Fun Fact: Did you know your tooth enamel is the hardest substance in your entire body—even stronger than bone? 🦷✨

Despite that superpower, everyday habits can silently chip away at your smile’s strength. Here is how four common habits weaken your teeth and what you can do to protect them:

Nail Biting: The constant pressure can cause micro-fractures in your front teeth, wear down enamel, and put uncomfortable strain on your jaw.

Smile Shield: Keep nails trimmed short or try a bitter-tasting protective polish to break the impulse.

Chewing Ice: It might seem harmless, but biting down on hard, frozen cubes creates thermal shock and extreme friction that leads to cracked teeth and broken fillings.

Smile Shield: Swap ice for chilled water, or opt for crushed ice if you love the crunch.

Using Teeth as Tools: Opening packages, tearing tape, or ripping tags with your teeth creates uneven stress that frequently causes sudden chips or severe cracks.

Smile Shield: Keep a pair of scissors or a pocket tool handy instead of letting your teeth do the heavy lifting.

Clenching & Grinding: Putting hundreds of pounds of pressure on your jaw wears down tooth surfaces, causes sensitivity, and leads to chronic jaw pain (TMJ).

Smile Shield: Practice mindfully relaxing your jaw throughout the day (lips together, teeth apart) and ask your dentist about a custom nightguard.

Small changes today make for a lifetime of healthy smiles!

Tip Tuesday: Protect Your Smile While You Sleep! 🌙✨
Did you know up to 1 in 3 adults grind or clench their teeth at night? Known as bruxism, this subconscious habit exerts up to 250 lbs of pressure on your jaw—wears down enamel, triggers morning headaches, and causes severe jaw pain! 😬

Here’s how a custom nightguard saves your smile:
🛡️ Acts as a Shock Absorber: Cushions the bite to protect enamel from chips & cracks.
💆 Relieves Jaw Tension: Prevents muscles from fully contracting, stopping morning TMJ pain.
🚫 Eliminated Friction: Lets teeth glide safely without harsh enamel-on-enamel wear.

Why You Need One?
If you wake up with jaw soreness, morning headaches, or notice flat, chipped teeth, you may be grinding or clenching in your sleep (bruxism). A nightguard prevents long-term damage, including cracked enamel, tooth loss, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction.

Pro Tip: Skip the bulky store-bought guards! A custom fit from your dentist gives you maximum protection and a comfortable night’s sleep. 😴💡
