To be sure you are cleaning out the gum pockets around each tooth, be sure your toothbrush is angled towards your gums! 🪥 🦷 ✨
Some people brush only the edges of their teeth, totally missing the gums. ❌ This leads to INFLAMMATION - redness, bleeding, and even swollen gums! ❌ The redness and bleeding can make people avoid the area as they think they are brushing too hard. To prevent this, always brush gently, but thoroughly on your gum tissue. 💗

Here are some ways to manage your risk of developing oral cancer for Oral Cancer Awareness Month! 🎗️🎗️🎗️

Most importantly ‼️ we want to tell everyone - YOU are at risk for oral cancer ‼️
While some people can be a higher risk for developing it, ANYONE can develop oral cancer. Know what your mouth looks like regularly so you will notice sores that hang around before they become a bigger problem. ‼️‼️
These are simply ways to reduce your risk, there is no way to eliminate the risk.
Cancer doesn't discriminate. Always talk to your doctor or dentist if you have a concern. 😷🩺🥼

Following up on our post from yesterday on the most common areas that oral cancer can form, here is a great example of what a simple screening looks like. You can have anyone you live with do this! It is a good idea to use a flashlight to visualize as much of the throat as possible and make sure nothing goes unnoticed. 🔎👄👅🔍

For Oral Cancer Awareness month, we want to highlight some of the most common areas that oral cancer can form. The lips, sides of the tongue, underside of the tongue, inside of the cheek, and we will also include the back of the throat are all common areas that oral cancer forms. 👅👄👅
Do you know what the underside and sides of your tongue look like normally? Would you know if something started forming? 🔎🔍🔎
It is always a good idea to know what your mouth looks like regularly to know when something suspicious shows up. As always, if you suspect anything, please have a doctor or dentist take a look - soon. 🔜🔜🔜

APRIL is oral cancer awareness month! 🎗️🎗️🎗️
Roughly 3% of cancer diagnoses are cancers of the oral cavity which includes: the lips, the tongue, the tonsils, the throat, the gums, the hard palate, and the floor of the mouth. 🔎👄🔍
Do you know what the inside of your mouth looks like? Would you notice if something looked different? 🤔🤔🤔

We will be sharing signs and symptoms to look for, but always talk to a doctor or your dentist if you feel or notice something different.
