Dental implants are one of the most durable tooth replacement options available—and the science behind them is solid.

Here's what happens: A titanium post is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it integrates over several months (osseointegration). Once fused, it acts like a natural tooth root, supporting a custom crown. Unlike bridges or dentures, implants preserve your bone structure and don't require grinding down adjacent teeth.

Implants work best when you have adequate bone density and good oral hygiene. They're not right for everyone—conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or certain medications can affect healing—which is why a thorough evaluation matters.

The investment is significant, but implants typically last 15–20+ years with proper care. That's decades of confident chewing, speaking, and smiling without slippage or daily removal.

If you're missing one tooth or several, we can assess whether implants fit your situation. Call us to schedule a consultation today.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) and nano hydroxyapatite (nHA) are reshaping how we think about tooth remineralization—and they're worth understanding.

Hydroxyapatite is the mineral that makes up 96% of your tooth enamel. When you use products containing HA or nHA, you're literally applying the same mineral structure your teeth naturally contain. The nano version is simply smaller particles that pe*****te deeper into microscopic enamel defects.

What does this mean for you?

• Remineralization without fluoride — HA products rebuild weakened enamel from the outside in
• Sensitivity relief — nHA fills tubules in exposed dentin, reducing pain from hot/cold triggers
• Biocompatibility — your teeth recognize and incorporate HA naturally
• Safety profile — no systemic absorption; the mineral stays where it's applied

Research shows nHA performs comparably to fluoride for cavity prevention and outperforms it for sensitivity. Many patients with fluoride sensitivities or preferences find HA products deliver real results.

Look for nHA in toothpastes, mouthrinses, and professional treatments. Consistency matters—daily use compounds the remineralization effect over weeks.

Have questions about whether HA products fit your oral health routine? We can evaluate your specific needs and recommend what works. Call us to schedule your dental hygiene appointment today and get a personalized plan to keep your smile healthy!

Hearing the words “you need a root canal” can make some people nervous, but modern root canal treatment is far more comfortable and routine than most people expect.

A root canal is needed when the inside of a tooth, called the pulp, becomes infected or inflamed. This can happen because of deep decay, a cracked tooth, trauma, or a large cavity that reaches the nerve. After a root canal, you will need a crown placed to protect the tooth and make it strong again.

Common signs you may need a root canal include:
• Persistent tooth pain
• Sensitivity to hot or cold
• Swelling or tenderness around the gums
• Pain when chewing
• A darkened tooth

During the procedure, the infected tissue inside the tooth is gently removed, the area is cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed to help prevent future infection. In many cases, a crown is placed afterward to strengthen and protect the tooth.

Most patients are surprised to learn that root canals today feel very similar to getting a filling. The goal is actually to relieve pain, not cause it.

Saving your natural tooth whenever possible is almost always the healthiest option for your smile and long-term oral health.

When Should Your Child See an Orthodontist?

Most kids are ready for their first orthodontic evaluation between ages 7–9. At this stage, adult teeth are beginning to erupt, and we can spot bite problems, crowding, and jaw alignment issues early.

Here's what to watch for:

• Crooked or overlapping teeth
• Bite problems (overbite, underbite, crossbite)
• Difficulty chewing or speaking
• Mouth breathing or sleep issues
• Teeth that don't meet when biting down
• Jaw clicking or pain

Early evaluation doesn't always mean immediate braces. Sometimes we recommend waiting until more adult teeth come in. Other cases benefit from early intervention with appliances that guide jaw growth—saving time and complexity later.

We can recommend an orthodontist, or you can schedule a consultation directly. Early screening is easy, and gives you a clear picture of what your child needs.

Call Longmont Peak Dentistry today to discuss your child's smile development or to get an orthodontic evaluation.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, selflessness, and dedication gave us freedoms that can never be taken for granted. Today is more than the start of summer, it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave everything for the people and nation they loved.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the military families who carry the weight of that sacrifice every day. Your strength and resilience will never be forgotten.

From all of us at Longmont Peak Dentistry, we thank and honor all who have served, and especially those who never made it home.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Professional fluoride treatments are one of the most effective preventive tools we have against tooth decay. Here's what you need to know.

Fluoride strengthens your enamel by remineralizing weakened areas before cavities form. While fluoridated water and toothpaste help, professional treatments deliver a concentrated dose that over-the-counter products can't match.

Who benefits most?
- Children (ages 6 months–16 years) during critical development
- Adults with high cavity risk or gum recession
- Anyone with exposed root surfaces
- Patients with dry mouth or acid reflux

What to expect:
The treatment takes minutes. We apply fluoride gel, foam, or varnish directly to your teeth. No drilling, no injections—just a simple preventive step that can save you from future fillings, root canals, and crowns.

The science is clear: professional fluoride reduces cavity risk by 25–40%. Combined with brushing twice daily, flossing, and regular cleanings, it's a proven strategy for long-term oral health.

If you haven't had a professional fluoride treatment, ask us about it at your next visit. It's one of the easiest things you can do to protect your teeth an prolong the life of your existing dental restorations.

Oral cancer screening isn't just for patients with risk factors—it's a critical part of preventive dental care for everyone.

During a screening, your dentist examines your lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat for signs of abnormal tissue, discoloration, or lesions. Early detection makes a significant difference in treatment outcomes and survival rates.

What increases risk:
• To***co and alcohol use
• HPV exposure
• Sun exposure (lip cancer)
• Family history
• Age 40+

But oral cancer can develop in anyone. Many patients discover it during routine exams when they had no symptoms at all.

At Longmont Peak Dentistry, we include oral cancer screening in every comprehensive exam. It takes minutes and could save your life.
