Happy Monday!! This is of the day of the week that I am blessed to change lives through surgery.
Paul is one of my favorites. He had interviewed several offices and I felt completely blessed to restore his function and confidence. His was a longer, more complicated case full of bone rebuilding. He can now eat, smile and be confident in himself. The amazing part was how Paul held his head high and let his coworkers, family, friends and us support him during his life changing surgery. Once again, many thanks over and over to be a part of his journey!!

The thing nobody says out loud about avoiding the dentist is that the longer it's been, the harder the door gets to walk through, and at some point the embarrassment is doing more to keep you out than your actual teeth are.

I see this every single week, so if that's you, please hear me when I say you are not the worst case I've seen and you are not going to get a lecture from me.

I honestly do not care how long it's been.

We figure out where you actually are, we figure out what you actually want, and we go from there together. That's the whole first visit.

And the part you've been dreading, the part that's kept you in this loop for years, that's usually the part we can sedate you through anyway. So it tends to be a lot smaller than it's been living in your head.

You learn pretty fast in this work that almost every adult who's been away from the dentist for a while walks in carrying something. Not always pain, not always a specific problem, but this quiet weight of feeling like they're about to be in trouble for waiting too long.

A lot of them apologize before we've even said hello, and most of them have been rehearsing the apology in their head on the way over.

The thing I want people to understand is that we are genuinely not keeping track of how long it's been since your last cleaning. We're not building a case against you.

The longer I've done this, the more I've realized that shame is the thing that actually keeps people away, way more than money or time or anything practical, and adding to it is the last thing that's going to get someone back in the chair.

If you've been gone a while, you don't owe us an explanation when you come in. You just have to walk through the door, and we'll go from there.
