Back-to-school season is a great time to discuss dental sealants. Sealants are a great way to protect deep grooves on back teeth from cavities and stain. They are especially useful in children when their molars first come in, as teeth aren't fully hard and mineralized for the first few years. Sealants can protect young molars when they are most vulnerable to cavities. Sealants on children typically do not require drilling into the tooth; instead they are placed in the deepest parts of the existing grooves that are hard to clean.
