Dr. Amy Luley - Tongue & Lip Tie Center

Dr. Amy Luley - Tongue & Lip Tie Center Dr. Amy Luley specializes in correcting tongue and lip ties using a LightScalpel Carbon Dioxide Laser

Tongue and lip ties can be quite common in infants and young children and can cause serious issues if not treated properly. A tongue/lip tie is a tight or thick string of tissue that restricts movement of the tongue or upper lip and affects a functional issue such as nursing, speech, feeding or sleep. Some tongue-ties are easily visible, while others may be hidden or “posterior”. Both can cause se

rious issues or difficulty with feeding and speech. At Pediatric Dentistry of Hamburg – Tongue and Lip Tie Center, we use a LightScalpel Carbon Dioxide Laser to perform the frenectomy. The laser cleanly and precisely vaporizes while sealing blood vessels simultaneously. The Carbon Dioxide laser is so precise that it is able to selectively remove only a few cells at a time. The procedure is near painless and can usually be completed in as little as 20-30 seconds. For infants, we have a nursing room where the mother can take their child post-procedure. Benefits of a Frenectomy:

For Infants

-Nursing/feeding with less pain and fewer problems
-Improved breathing
-Improved sleep

For Toddlers and Older Children

-Speaking more clearly
-Increase in confidence with speech
-Improved sleep and breathing
-Improvement in chewing, digestion, and swallowing

What is a Myo Munchee?

A Myo Munchee is a soft silicone oral appliance designed to be gently chewed for a few minutes each day. It’s commonly used in myofunctional therapy to help promote nasal breathing, improve tongue posture, strengthen facial and jaw muscles, and support healthy jaw development in children.

The appliance looks similar to a small mouthguard with textured surfaces. As a child chews, it helps activate and exercise the muscles involved in breathing, swallowing, and proper oral posture.

A Myo Munchee may be recommended to support:
• Mouth breathing
• Thumb or pacifier habits
• Tongue thrust
• Mild jaw development concerns
• Crowded teeth
• Snoring or sleep-disordered breathing

Sizing:
• Bebe: 6–18 months
• Mini: 18 months–4 years
• Junior: 4–8 years
• Tween: 8–14 years / small adults
• Adult: 14+

Size is NOT just age-based 👇
We also consider:
• Jaw width (narrow vs. wide)
• History of tongue or lip tie
• Patient comfort

👉 Sometimes we start with a smaller size and progress as strength improves.

Dr. Amy at the Tongue and Lip Tie Center is now offering consultations to determine if your child may be a good candidate for this appliance.

If you think your child could benefit from a Myo Munchee, contact our office to learn more or schedule an appointment!

You’ve been told your child may need a tongue-tie release… now what?

It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed—there’s a lot of information, and the unknown can feel intimidating. The good news? Feeling prepared with the right questions can make your consult so much easier and more empowering.

Swipe through to see key questions you should be asking your provider 👉

🚩 If your provider isn’t talking about a team approach, pre- and post-operative care, and why function matters, that’s a red flag.

Here are some important questions to ask:
• Do you assess function, or just take a quick look?
• Do you work with support providers before and after?
• What do you do to help prevent reattachment?
• What else does the doctor evaluate?
• What tool or method do you use for the procedure?
• What does follow-up care look like?

The release itself happens in one appointment—but what happens before and after plays a huge role in overall success.

At the Tongue and Lip Tie Center, we’re here to make sure you feel heard, informed, and confident every step of the way. 💛

Pre- and post-operative therapy can make all the difference in a successful frenectomy outcome 👇

A frenectomy isn’t just a quick procedure—it’s part of a bigger journey toward better function. Without proper preparation and follow-up, the body often falls back into old habits, limiting results.

✨ Before the procedure:
Pre-op therapy helps train the muscles, improve mobility, and prepare the tongue and oral tissues for optimal healing. Think of it as setting the foundation so the release can actually “stick.”

✨ After the procedure:
Post-op therapy is where the magic really happens. Guided exercises help prevent reattachment, improve strength and coordination, and support new, healthy movement patterns for breathing, feeding, and speech.

Skipping therapy can lead to incomplete results or the need for revision—something we always want to avoid.

A frenectomy is not just about releasing tissue—it’s about restoring function. And therapy is the key 🔑

5 additional signs your child may not be breathing correctly 👇

1. Difficulty focusing or hyperactive behaviors
2. Teeth grinding during sleep
3. Crowded teeth
4. Narrow arch
5. Clenching

Often, these signs are addressed separately—but they’re frequently connected. Airway development plays a key role in bringing all of these symptoms together.

If you notice any of these signs in your child, it may be worth considering an evaluation.
