Dr. Amy Luley - Tongue & Lip Tie Center Dr. Amy Luley specializes in correcting tongue and lip ties using a LightScalpel Carbon Dioxide Laser

Tongue and lip ties can be quite common in infants and young children and can cause serious issues if not treated properly. A tongue/lip tie is a tight or thick string of tissue that restricts movement of the tongue or upper lip and affects a functional issue such as nursing, speech, feeding or sleep. Some tongue-ties are easily visible, while others may be hidden or “posterior”. Both can cause serious issues or difficulty with feeding and speech. At Pediatric Dentistry of Hamburg – Tongue and Lip Tie Center, we use a LightScalpel Carbon Dioxide Laser to perform the frenectomy. The laser cleanly and precisely vaporizes while sealing blood vessels simultaneously. The Carbon Dioxide laser is so precise that it is able to selectively remove only a few cells at a time. The procedure is near painless and can usually be completed in as little as 20-30 seconds. For infants, we have a nursing room where the mother can take their child post-procedure. This patient is being treated in our office for airway concerns and is wearing a Vivos appliance. In just 3 months, we’re seeing a noticeable difference in the appearance of the lower jaw!

The Vivos appliance is worn overnight, and with consistency, patience, and proper follow-up, we’re excited to see this patient’s progress!

Our sweet friend came in for a lip tie release consult, and as we talked with Mom and learned more about her concerns, we discovered she was also experiencing challenges with her tongue, eating, speech, and more.

We introduced her to our MyoMunchee and let her try it out, hold it, and get comfortable with it. She loved it so much that she went home with one!

At her age, it’s completely normal to start with shorter periods of use. We encourage her to hold it, chew on it, and practice getting comfortable with it. Over time, she’ll become more familiar with the appliance and will be able to use it for longer periods.

✨ Before & After: Continuing Her Journey! ✨

Here is a before-and-after of one of our sweet release patients!

When she first came to us, we released her tongue, lip, and cheeks. Three months later, she returned to see us so we could continue helping her with her airway concerns. During her visit, Mom shared all about the wonderful improvements she has noticed since her releases!

She is now wearing one of our Vivos appliances, and we are so excited to continue seeing her and supporting her throughout this next chapter of her journey!

We love when our parents and patients share their progress, improvements, and photos with us—and allow us to share their stories with all of you.
