This is what a busy Friday at Karis Orthodontics looked like: Dr. Lee's bump has been bumping 🤰🏻, we finished the treatment of a few of our very first patients who started their orthodontic journey last year when Karis Orthodontics opened 🥳, we removed two expanders, we met new faces, and Dr. Lee got to kick off World Cup celebrations with the sweetest French family rooting for Dr. Lee's birth country, France - allez la France!! 🇫🇷

With the right diagnosis and the right time window to intervene, Phase I orthodontic treatment or interceptive orthodontics can make an impact that lasts a lifetime on young patients' smiles and health. 🙌

A. came to us when she was 7 years old. She presented with:
📌 A narrow maxilla (upper jaw)
📌 A unilateral posterior crossbite
📌 A mandible (lower jaw) shift due to her malocclusion

We needed to change the whole trajectory of her dento-facial development now, while her jaw bone was still maturing. We designed a custom 3D-printed expander, which was successful in widening her palate, correcting her crossbite and her facial asymmetry.

What we achieved:
→ More space for permanent teeth to erupt without crowding 🦷
→ Correction of the jaw shift supporting symmetrical, balanced facial growth 💁🏽‍♀️
→ Widening of the nasal floor — increasing airflow and oxygen to the brain 🧠
→ Increasing tongue space — improving oral functions 👅

This is dentofacial orthopedics. And it's only possible while a child is still growing. That is why orthodontic consultations are recommended starting at age 7 or earlier if indicated!

Something other than beautiful, healthy smiles has been cooking at Karis Orthodontics... 👶🏻✨️

Some of you might have already noticed the bump 🤭 We're overjoyed to share that Dr. Lee is expecting a sweet new addition to her family this summer! 🍼🤍

With our one-year anniversary also approaching, it feels like God has been pouring blessings onto our Karis Ortho family 🥹🙏

For our patients in active treatment, we will reach out individually to ensure continuity of care closer to Dr. Lee's maternity leave, so do not worry! 🗓

Thank you, Coyote Ridge Elementary School, for inviting me to speak with the 5th graders during Career Day! I had such a fun and memorable time sharing my journey and giving a glimpse into what it’s like to be both an orthodontist and a business owner 👩🏻‍⚕️

To the students: I hope I sparked your curiosity, encouraged you to dream big, and reminded you that resilience, passion, and drive can take you further than you imagine.

And for me, this experience was a meaningful moment to reflect on how grateful I am to do what I love every day. I’m especially thankful for the trust my patients place in me with their orthodontic care. It truly means everything.

A big part of what we do at Karis Orthodontics is dento-facial orthopedics. 👩🏻‍⚕️ Orthodontists can help guide jaw development and alignment in growing patients, so everything fits and functions the way it should (speech, chewing, swallowing, breathing...). When patients are young enough and we target the ideal time window with early intervention, we can achieve healthy bites, balanced profiles, and confident smiles for life! ✨️

We are SO proud of E. 🤍 She wore her reverse pull facemask like an absolute champ, and in a few months, we’ve already seen incredible changes!

She came to us with an underbite profile, where her chin and lower lip sat further forward than her upper lip. With consistent wear and great teamwork, we’ve been able to reverse that trend and guide her jaws into better alignment. It helped improve her bite and her overall facial balance. We are still working on making more space for permanent teeth to prevent impaction. We can't wait to share more progress later!

Early intervention can make such a powerful difference, and E.’s progress is proof of that! 👏✨
