Are you flossing your kid’s teeth? 👀 🦷

We hate to break it to you, but brushing isn’t enough - especially in little kids! We see cavities most commonly appear around 4 and 5 years old, in between teeth that are touching (like the back molars).

If you know you need to start flossing your kid’s teeth, here is our strategy to help you BOTH get through a nightly floss 🪥

ONE YEAR OF HONEY BEE IN PRAIRIE VILLAGE 🎉🐝

It’s hard to BEE-lieve it’s already been a whole year!

We’re so thankful for our incredible Prairie Village team, the families who trust us with their children’s care, and every patient who has walked through our doors this past year 🫶

When we set out to reimagine what pediatric dental care could look like, we never imagined we’d be celebrating the first anniversary of our third location just a few years later.

This past year has been filled with first visits, brave kiddos, happy smiles, and so many sweet moments we’re honored to be a part of.

To our Prairie Village families: thank you for helping make this first year so special. We love your kids, and we can’t wait to see what year two has in store! 🐝

Sucking a little toothpaste off the toothbrush never hurt anybody 😅

One of the most common concerns we hear from parents is that their toddler won’t spit out toothpaste. Instead, they lick it off, suck it off, or swallow it while brushing. Luckily, swallowing small amounts of toothpaste is totally normal (and expected) for kids under 5!

Because young kids haven’t mastered spitting, the amount of toothpaste on the toothbrush matters. For how much toothpaste to use, we suggest:
🐝 Under age 3 — use a rice-sized smear
🐝 Ages 3+ — use a pea-sized amount

As for which toothpaste to use, we personally use both fluoride and hydroxyapatite toothpaste on our own children to help strengthen enamel and protect against cavities.

When you’re using the recommended amount, swallowing a little toothpaste during brushing is expected and generally considered safe. The concern is usually when kids are using too much toothpaste, eating it from the tube(😅😅😅), or swallowing large amounts on a regular basis.

You can encourage spitting by making it fun. Look in the mirror and make a silly face, pretend to spit like a dinosaur 🦖, and practice with water to help them learn over time!

A child’s first dental visit can shape how they feel about the dentist for years to come… and we take that seriously 🐝

Everything we do is designed with children (and parents) in mind, from the way we communicate, to the pace of appointments, to the environment itself.

Whether your child is excited, nervous, shy, wiggly, sensory-sensitive, or walking in after a difficult past experience, our goal is the same: help them feel safe, comfortable, and cared for from the moment they walk through our doors.

We’re here to make dental visits feel easier for the whole family… and maybe even become something your child looks forward to 🥹🪥
