🦷📚✨ Smiles, Songs & Storytime at Chadbourn Elementary! ✨📚🦷

We had such a fun visit with the amazing EC students at Chadbourn Elementary School! In honor of Read Across America, we kicked things off by reading a book all about toothbrushing and why taking care of our smiles is so important. 📖🪥

Then the real fun began! We played games, sang songs, practiced our best toothbrushing moves, and learned how healthy teeth help us eat, talk, laugh, and smile every day. These students brought so much excitement and joy to learning about their teeth, and we had an absolute blast together! 😁

A huge thank you to the incredible teachers and staff for the wonderful care you give your students and for welcoming us into your classroom. Your dedication truly shines! 💙

And a special thank you to Dr. Poe for generously donating toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss so every student could take home the tools they need to keep their smiles healthy. 🪥✨

We had the BEST time visiting all of the first graders at Holly Tree Elementary! 🦷✨

Dr. Poe generously donated toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss so every student could go home ready to take great care of their smile.

We had so much fun learning together picking out foods that make our teeth happy 😊 and foods that make them sad 😢 and talking about why brushing all of our teeth and flossing every day is so important.

Healthy teeth help us eat our favorite foods, smile with confidence, talk clearly, and do all the things we love while staying strong and healthy!

That’s right! When you eat foods like chips, crackers, bread, and pasta, the enzymes in your saliva immediately start breaking those starches down into sugar.

And sugar feeds the bacteria that cause cavities. 😬

If it’s not brushed and flossed away, it can lead to decay over time.

So grateful for the opportunity to spend time at Laney High School teaching biology students about enzymes and their link to oral health. Huge thank you to Laney for welcoming Assure Dental into your classrooms! 🦷✨

We had a great time showing students just how much sugar is hiding in popular drinks like Coca-Cola, Gatorade, and Monster Energy drinks, and discussing how sugar lingers in the mouth, feeds harmful bacteria, and produces even more acid that can damage teeth.

We also talked about how enzymes in saliva begin breaking down starches into sugars as soon as we start chewing, helping students understand that it’s not just sweet foods that can affect oral health.

Students got to chew plain crackers and experience how it turns sweet in their mouths after about a minute, connecting enzyme activity to the sugars that are broken down by their saliva.

We also measured the pH of saliva, learning that a healthy mouth should be close to a neutral 7 to help buffer and cleanse and explored how different drinks can shift that balance. Seeing the science behind everyday choices really helped everything click!

One of the most common questions we hear in the hygiene chair!

Short answer: Your gums are sending an SOS. 🚨

When plaque and bacteria hang out along your gumline (especially if flossing hasn’t been a daily habit), your gums get inflamed—and inflamed gums bleed easily. Think of it like poking a splinter you didn’t know was there… it’s gonna protest!

✨ The good news?
Bleeding gums are often a sign you should floss MORE, not less.

With consistent brushing, daily flossing, and regular cleanings, your gums can calm down, toughen up, and stop bleeding—usually within a week or two! 💪

After three months, toothbrush bristles are bent, worn, and holding onto bacteria—especially after illness . At that point, you’re basically just moving germs around instead of cleaning.

Start thinking of the plaque hiding along your gumline and between your teeth the same way you’d think about a nest of termites sitting right next to the foundation of your home.

If you don’t remove them, they will break in and quietly destroy the foundation — whether it’s your house… or your teeth!

Protect your smile the way you’d protect your home.
Strong teeth need healthy, clean gums, and flossing is the easiest way to keep the “termites” out. 🪲✨
