Many parents think a baby tooth that “just won’t fall out” is normal.

Many dentists tell parents to just wait until all the baby teeth fall out to see an orthodontic specialist for braces or Invisalign. Or to wait for the baby teeth to fall out so they can do Invisalign.

Sometimes, however, a retained baby tooth is a sign that the adult canine tooth is stuck in the bone and unable to erupt properly, what we call an impacted canine.

The problem is that many of these cases are not discovered until years later, when treatment becomes far more complicated and may require surgery.
