I want to thank everyone who thought of me, prayed for me and especially those who donated to the American Cancer Society on my behalf. Together we raised $8000 towards the fight against cancer. Together we have had an impact today and in the future.
If you know someone who might still like to donate, they have until 7/26: https://secure.acsevents.org/site/STR?fr_id=111072&pg=personal&px=60581030
It has been a blessing to be allowed to live 40 years past the moment of hearing โYou have cancer.โ During those 40 years, I have been blessed to have children, grandchildren, become an orthodontist and practice in the wonderful cities, of Lebanon, Middletown and Monroe meeting so many people along the way.
Two people that I want to give special thanks to โฆ
First, my coach Bob Duncan โ a tough old Marine who will push you hard to reach the edge of who you can be but has a heart of gold. Bob crafted the plan that saw me blow away what I thought that I could do and give me the confidence to accomplish more that I ever thought that I could.
Second, my beautiful wife of 40 years, Eileen. Yes, you did the math correctly โฆ we were married and the same year I got cancer. Not exactly what she signed up for but through cancer, career changes and crazy ideas like โI think I want to do an Ironman triathlonโ, Eileen has stayed by my side encouraging me the entire way. Without her I would not be the man that I am today.
The short video attached to this post summarizes what this race meant to me.
I hope everyone can have a best friend for life like I do. Funny story: I was going to get down on my knee and ask Eileen if she would marry me for another 40 years but I didnโt know if I would be able to stand back up! (I asked while standing up and she said โYes!โ)
In that same way, I want to thank God, my heavenly Father, Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior & the Holy Spirit for giving me the courage to undertake such an audacious goal.
My race verse was Joshua 1:9: โHave I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you where you go.โ
Thank you all for being a part of this journey. Your support has meant so much to me!
To God be the Glory,
Dr. Bart
