When $2 Stands Between a Child and a Dentist
A seven-year-old girl came to our Rwanda outreach with untreated cavities so painful she couldn't sleep and was missing school. The nearest hospital was only a few miles away—but her family couldn't afford the equivalent of a $2 ride to get there.
Thanks to our outreach, she received treatment that stopped the progression of her tooth decay and relieved the source of her pain before it became a more serious infection.
This quarter also marked an exciting milestone as four new dental students from the University of Rwanda joined the Smiles for Everyone volunteer team. With more students volunteering than available positions, we're growing local capacity to reach even more families who face barriers to dental care.
Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn't the distance—it's the cost of getting there. ❤️🦷
