June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month💜

Did you know more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and by 2050 that number is projected to rise to almost 13 million?

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die. It is the most common form of dementia. This disease is marked by a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that affects a person's ability to function independently. The early signs of the disease include forgetting recent events or conversations. As the disease progresses, a person with Alzheimer's disease will develop severe memory impairment and lose the ability to carry out everyday tasks.

If you suffer from or are affected by this terrible disease, know that you are not alone! Whether you are living with Alzheimer's or caring for someone with the disease, information, resources, and support are available.

During this month, let's celebrate the lives of those who suffer or have suffered from this disease by sharing their stories here. Do you have a story from a loved one you can share?

To learn more about the disease, the signs, symptoms and stages, We encourage you to visit alz.org. If you suspect that you or your aging loved one might have Alzheimer's, it's important to get a diagnosis early on. There isn't a cure yet, but there are treatments that can lessen symptoms. Also, getting diagnosed sooner rather than later will make it easier to put a plan in place to help prepare with the progression of the disease.
