Think baby teeth don't matter much since they'll fall out anyway? Here's why they do.
Primary teeth help children chew properly, support facial structure and jaw development, and play a role in speech. They also hold space in the jaw for permanent teeth developing underneath. When a baby tooth is lost too early, nearby teeth can shift into the gap, sometimes leading to crowding down the road.
Untreated decay in baby teeth can lead to:
- Infection spreading to surrounding teeth and tissue
- Early tooth loss and shifting alignment
- A harder time with future dental visits
- The need for more involved restorations later
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit by a child's first birthday, even with just a tooth or two in. Early visits are short, gentle, and help kids get comfortable with the dentist before any real work is needed.
At All Star Kidz Pediatrics, Dr. Christopher Lamb makes it his goal for every child to leave liking the dentist. We serve families across Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, and Centennial Hills. Schedule an appointment to get your child's dental health off to a strong start. 702-463-0559
