Halloween treats are part of the fun, but some candies can be especially tough on your smile. When sugar remains on your teeth, bacteria in your mouth feed on it and produce acids that can attack tooth enamel and contribute to cavities.

🍬 Not all candy is created equal! Sticky candies like gummies and taffy can cling to teeth, while hard candies stay in your mouth longer, exposing teeth to sugar for extended periods. Sour candies can be a double whammy because they contain acids that can weaken enamel.

🍫 A better Halloween choice? Plain chocolate tends to wash away from the teeth more easily than sticky or hard candy. Sugar-free treats can also be an alternative.

Help your family enjoy Halloween while protecting those smiles with a few simple habits:

🎃 Enjoy candy with or shortly after a meal instead of snacking on it throughout the day.
💧 Drink plenty of water after enjoying sweets.
