Happy Monday! Packing lunches this week?
Check out some tips for dentist-approved snacks!
Great snack options: π
Cheese: cheese is an excellent snack for keeping teeth happy and healthy. Cheese contains high levels of calcium and phosphate which are minerals that can help balance pH levels, reduce acid levels, and strengthen enamel.
Yogurt: It's packed with calcium and protein. Probiotic yogurt promotes healthy gums by reducing bad bacteria in the mouth. Unsweetened yogurt is a plus!
Fruits and Veggies: Apples, bananas, carrots & celery. Al great options for increasing saliva production and cleaning the teeth.
Nuts and Seeds: These are great snack options as they are low in sugar and high in calcium and protein.
Whole Wheat Crackers: Whole wheat crackers are a healthier alternative to regular crackers. They contain less sugar and more fiber, which is great for health overall.
Drinks: Water, water, water! Milk is an option too as it is rich in calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for strong teeth and bones. Milk can help neutralize acids in the mouth and provide a protective barrier for the enamel.
Avoid as much as possible π
Candy: Candy, cookies, and other sugary treats should be limited. The high sugar content can lead to tooth decay, especially if consumed frequently. If your child does eat something sweet, encourage them to brush their teeth afterward or rinse with water.
Sticky Foods: sticky foods, like dried fruits, gummies, and caramel, can cling to teeth and are difficult to remove, providing a perfect environment for bacteria to thrive.
Acidic Foods and Drinks: Foods and drinks with high acid content, such as citrus fruits and soda, can erode the enamel over time.
