Dentists Recommend Frequent Toothbrush Replacement
Yahoo (8/20, Edwards) reported that dental experts emphasize the importance of replacing toothbrushes more frequently than commonly practiced. Dr. Stephen Mitchell from the University of Alabama advises a three to four-month replacement cycle, while Dr. Kami Hoss from San Diego suggests monthly replacements to ensure optimal oral health. Dr. Yev Davydov and Dr. Jonathan Richter highlight that worn toothbrushes are less effective at removing plaque, increasing the risk of dental issues. Additionally, Dr. Ben Dancygier notes that children may need more frequent replacements due to aggressive brushing habits. Dentists also recommend choosing toothbrushes with soft bristles, small heads, and ADA recognition for effective cleaning.
