Here's a small piece of scheduling advice that will save some of you money. 📅

Dental benefits reset January 1. Whatever you haven't used by then is gone — it doesn't roll over and you don't get it back.

Almost everyone works this out in the first week of December. Which is precisely why December is the hardest month of the year to get an appointment, at any practice, anywhere.

September is the opposite. The schedule has room right now.

If you're a new patient, this is where to start:

🦷 $99 — complete checkup + X-rays
🚨 $69 — emergency exam + X-ray

(New patients only, can't be combined with insurance.)

We take most PPO plans. No insurance? There's third-party financing with no credit check, and in-house plans that usually cost a lot less than people assume.

Honest question, no judgment, and there is genuinely no wrong answer. 👇

When did you actually last floss?

A. This morning. Genuinely.
B. Sometime this week.
C. Before my last dental appointment.
D. I'm going to go do it right now.

Drop your letter in the comments. We promise we're not going to lecture anybody — we can usually tell anyway, and making patients feel bad about it has never once helped.

But here's the part worth knowing. Flossing isn't really about the teeth. It's about what sits between them and just under the gumline, and that's exactly where gum disease starts. Brushing physically cannot reach it. That's the whole reason the habit exists.

So if the honest answer is C, that's a reason to book a cleaning — not a reason to keep putting one off.

Football, basketball, lacrosse, skating, martial arts. If your kid plays any of them, this one is for you. 🏈

There are three kinds of mouthguard, and they are genuinely not equivalent:

🥊 Stock — cheap, bulky, hard to talk or breathe through. Minimal protection.
♨️ Boil-and-bite — softened in hot water and moulded at home. A real step up, but still generic.
🦷 Custom — made here from a mould of your actual teeth and bite.

The difference that matters is fit. A guard that shifts on impact isn't protecting anything, and the injuries we're trying to prevent are the expensive ones: cracked teeth, teeth knocked out completely, fractured jaws.

One more thing worth knowing — the same appliance in a night version handles teeth grinding. It eases jaw pain, headaches and enamel wear, and because it repositions the jaw slightly, it can open the airway for people who snore or have sleep apnea.

Our favourite kind of review starts with low expectations. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"A friend recommended Dentist of Lake Mary. That's why I went. I wasn't expecting anything different from any of the other dentists I have gone to. But was I pleasantly surprised. From the front desk to the doctors and staff, everyone is beyond friendly and patient. I'm sticking with Dentist of Lake Mary."

Read that first line again. Gordon wasn't hoping for much. He came because a friend told him to, and he expected a dentist to be a dentist.

What changed his mind had nothing to do with equipment or décor. It was the front desk. It was being treated patiently by people who weren't in a hurry.

That's the unglamorous part of this job and it's the part we work hardest on — because it's the only part that decides whether someone comes back.

Do you wake up with a sore jaw? That's not how mornings are supposed to go. 😬

It's called bruxism — grinding your teeth while you sleep — and the reason almost nobody catches it themselves is obvious once you say it out loud: you're unconscious when it happens.

So the signs are indirect:

1️⃣ Waking with a sore jaw or a dull headache
2️⃣ Teeth that look flattened at the tips
3️⃣ A partner who says you make a clicking sound at night

Here's why we care: grinding wears enamel down permanently, cracks fillings, and over years can leave the jaw joint genuinely painful. Enamel doesn't grow back.

The fix is unglamorous and very effective — a custom night guard, moulded to your bite, worn only while you sleep. Most patients tell us they forget it's there within a week.
