Lake Forest Dental Associates began in 1969 when Dr. Fred Schaffer established the practice at 1400 N. Western Ave. To this day, many of the patients in our practice began as patients of Dr. Schaffer who worked until age 67 at which time he passed the torch to Dr. Richard Cottrell.

Dr. Cottrell purchased the practice from Dr. Schaffer in 1981. That same year, he met the love of his life, Dr. Sharon A. Foertsch. The couple married in 1988, Dr. Foertsch joined the dental practice, and they moved the practice to its current location at 133 E. Laurel Avenue in 1992. Dr. Cottrell’s love for designing and building led him to develop the office’s stand-alone location. Dr. Cottrell’s attention to detail can be seen in every corner and every brick of the building.

The opportunity to pass along the practice to the next generation of husband-and-wife dental teams came when Dr. Cottrell and Dr. Foertsch decided, in 2015, to take a step back from practice ownership and toward retirement.
