The #1 question I get from parents: โIs my child too young for an airway evaluation?โ
Short answer: probably not. ๐
Let me answer this once and for all, because I hear it every single week.
๐ถ Can you start airway evaluations in infants?
Yes โ and in some cases, we absolutely should. Tongue ties and feeding difficulties can be identified and addressed from birth. Early intervention can prevent a cascade of issues down the road.
๐ง What about toddlers (ages 1โ3)?
This is actually one of the best windows. We can identify habits like mouth breathing, thumb sucking, and poor tongue posture early, and guide simple changes before they become structural problems.
๐ฆ๐ง Ages 4โ7?
Golden. The jaw is still highly responsive to guidance. This is when gentle myofunctional guides work with the body most naturally โ no force needed.
๐ง Ages 8โ12?
Still very effective. The window is narrowing, but there is still significant growth happening. Earlier is better, but itโs absolutely not too late. ๐ฏ
๐ Teenagers and adults?
Treatment is still very possible, but itโs more involved. The earlier we start, the less intervention is needed later.
My honest answer? The best time to bring your child in was yesterday. The second best time is today. ๐ฟ
