Overall, recovery after a root canal is typically smooth and straightforward. Most people are pleasantly surprised by how normal everything feels. You can usually drive yourself home and return to work or daily activities the same day. It’s best to wait until the numbness wears off before eating and stick to softer foods, avoiding the treated tooth until it’s fully restored. Mild soreness is normal and often managed with over-the-counter pain medication; antibiotics are prescribed only when clinically necessary.
