🦈🦷 “Shark teeth” might look scary, but they’re usually nothing to panic about!

Ever notice your child has a new permanent tooth coming in behind a baby tooth? This is commonly called “shark teeth” because the teeth can appear in two rows—just like a shark! 🦈

This happens when the permanent tooth begins erupting before the baby tooth has fully loosened or fallen out. Ideally, the baby tooth’s root dissolves (resorbs) as the permanent tooth moves into place, but sometimes the timing doesn’t line up perfectly.

✨ The good news: Shark teeth are common in kids, especially around the time the lower permanent front teeth are coming in, and they often resolve naturally as the baby tooth loosens and falls out.

That said, it’s always a good idea to have your child’s dentist keep an eye on it to make sure the permanent tooth is moving into the right position. 🦷💙

Little habits can make a big difference in a growing smile! 🦷💜
Thumb sucking and pacifier use are common and comforting for little ones, but when they continue for too long, they can sometimes affect the way the teeth and jaws develop—including contributing to an open bite or changes in tooth position.

The good news? Every child is different, and there’s no need to panic. 💕 Our pediatric dental team can help you understand your child’s habit, development, and when it may be time to start making a change.

✨ Save this post for later & share it with a parent who needs to see it!
