Last Friday, I traded the dental office for the classroom—and had the privilege of spending the day at the Dental College of Georgia in Augusta.

Alongside a terrific panel of fellow dentists, I spoke with fourth-year dental students about the transition from dental school into practice. We discussed clinical skills, practice ownership, goal setting, leadership, and some of the lessons that can only be learned through experience.

Dentistry is about much more than treating teeth. It’s about earning trust, caring for people, leading a team, and continually working to become better. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned—and equally grateful for the thoughtful questions and fresh perspectives these future dentists brought to the conversation.

Giving back to the next generation is one of the best ways we can strengthen our profession and the communities we serve. Thank you to the Dental College of Georgia for inviting me to be part of such a meaningful day!

“I went in to have a tooth extracted after being told by another dentist they couldn’t do it. They did the X-ray, numbed me up. The dentist came back in and explained what the next steps were. After feeling a little bit more relaxed, he began to pull the tooth. In less than 3 minutes it was out. He said, ‘You’re all done.’ I was very satisfied with how the process went. I never felt any pain at all. The staff was amazing. Everyone treated each other with dignity and respect. It felt good to be in good hands. This will be my new dentist from here on out.
