20 years ago today, we took a leap.

Erica was 26, Jeff was 28, and we had a vision to build something of our own. We took out a loan to open our practice and unfortunately learned that was all we were going to get. There was nothing left for marketing, so we got creative. We made our own flyers and between seeing patients at another office, Erica hand-delivered flyers around Lafayette, often meeting people who would later become some of our very first patients. Jeff did the same whenever he could, going door to door, doing whatever it took to open our doors.

Those first five years were hard, harder than most people ever saw. There was a lot happening behind the scenes, and plenty of moments where we questioned how we’d make it through. But we did.

And what we’ve built over the last 20 years is something we could have never fully imagined.

Our practice has become more than just a place to care for smiles. It’ become a community. Our patients have been part of our lives in ways that go far beyond dentistry. Many of you remember Ava and Landon as little kids in the back office nursery with a nanny by their side, popping in to say hi or being spoiled with cookies and treats. Now Ava will be working this summer at the office! Today, some of the children we first cared for are now bringing in their own kids. That kind of trust and loyalty is something we will never take for granted.

Over the years, you’ve been there for us through life’s highs and lows. Losing Erica’s mom and Jeff’s dad in recent years was incredibly difficult, and the support we felt from our dental family meant more than we can put into words. It changed how we see this practice, not just as a business, but as something deeply personal.

Yes, your dental health is our top priority. But who you are as people, your stories, your families, your lives, means just as much to us. That’s what keeps us going. That’s what makes every day meaningful.

And we could never tell this story without recognizing the incredible team that makes this place feel like a true dental home. Tracy, Jenny, Jessica, Laura, Amanda, Nancy and Desirea, each of you has helped create an environment that is warm, caring, and genuinely special. You take care of our patients with utmost care and compassion, and we absolutely know we have the very best people by our side. We are so lucky, and truly, we could not do this without you!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and growing with us over the past 20 years.

We’re so grateful and honored to know you!

Here’s to many more years serving this incredible community ❤️🐞

A new review published in the Medical Research Archives (June 2025) highlights a growing concern in dentistry and medicine: the link between oral biofilms and major systemic diseases like diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and pancreatic cancer. Oral biofilms are structured colonies of bacteria that stick to teeth and gums—commonly seen as plaque. While we’ve long known they cause gum disease, this study shows they may also contribute to much more serious health problems.

Researchers explain that when these biofilms cause chronic inflammation in the mouth (like in periodontitis), bacteria and inflammatory molecules can enter the bloodstream. This can disrupt other organs and systems. In patients with diabetes or kidney disease, this added inflammation may worsen their condition. Even more striking, some evidence suggests biofilm-related inflammation may influence cancer development in the pancreas.

This research reinforces the idea that oral health is directly connected to overall health. Maintaining good oral hygiene—brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits—is not just about protecting your teeth, but possibly about preventing or managing life-threatening diseases too. As dentists, this underlines our role in early detection and prevention beyond the mouth.

Our team surprised Dr Winnicki and honored the memory of Larry Winnicki today(Dr. Winnicki’s father passed away December 23rd). They made Buffalo shirts, wore suspenders and bucket hats, made polish food/desserts and had pictures of him out for display. Larry would have absolutely loved it and had a great laugh! We have the best Dental family in town!
The Winnicki family will be forever grateful for the love and support that we have received! ❤️❤️
