Dr. Adrienne R. Harst and Dr. Evan Tatford are board-certified pediatric dentists.

Just like the roots of a tooth are its strong foundation, the habits we form in childhood become the groundwork for lifelong oral health. At Roots Pediatric Dentistry, we believe in starting early—helping children grow strong, healthy smiles from the ground up. Our name reflects our mission: to plant the seeds of positive dental experiences and nurture lasting oral hygiene habits in a fun, supportive, and personalized environment. From baby teeth and beyond, we’re here to help every child build deep, healthy roots for a lifetime of confident smiles.

Toddler negotiation skills are part of our job description, and ours are second to none! We know little ones can be unpredictable and very opinionated, but we love a good challenge! (A little bribery with prizes may or may not also be involved 😉)

We get it, parents—we know you mean well! But there are certain words (like the dreaded s-h-o-t 💉) that we just stay away from 🙅🏻‍♀️ to avoid unnecessary anxiety. Most of the time, we are able to get through that part of the appointment without your child even knowing what happened! Let’s work together to make your child’s appointment as easy and stress-free as possible!

We had so much fun sponsoring Cocoa with Mrs. Claus at Junior League of Lafayette’s Tinsel & Treasures! We enjoyed making new friends and seeing some of our little patients, too! What a great way to usher in the holiday spirit! 🤶☕️🎄🛍️

✨One of our favorite events of the year is just a few days away! ✨Join us for Cocoa with Mrs. Claus this Thursday from 4-7 PM at Junior League of Lafayette’s Tinsel & Treasures holiday market! 🤶☕️

For more than 30 years, Tinsel & Treasures has successfully raised more than $6 million for Junior League of Lafayette’s community programs. 100% of these funds are invested in the Lafayette area through programs benefiting women and children. We are so proud to support such a wonderful organization year after year!

Stop by and enjoy some holiday magic while supporting an amazing cause! 🎄🛍️

A few eye-openers 👀 we want all our patients to know:

1️⃣ Frequent snacking on chips, cookies, crackers, and other carbs often leads to cavities more than occasional candy. The frequency of the snacking is just as important as what you’re snacking on. 🍪

2️⃣ Fruit juice is often loaded with sugar and is lacking the fiber that you get from eating the actual fruit. Frequent juice consumption is also one of the most common causes of cavities in young children. 🍎🧃

3️⃣ Bedtime is the most important time to brush, with nothing to eat or drink afterwards. Just like buckling up in the car seat or having a diaper change, your little one might not like it—but it has to happen for their safety and wellbeing. Make it a consistent part of their bedtime routine. 🪥💤

☁️ Cloudy with a chance of….tooth decay?

Have you ever noticed these chalky white, cloudy areas along your child’s gum line?

These areas are called white spot lesions and are the result of demineralization from plaque accumulation.

🦠 Bacteria in plaque produce acid that breaks down tooth structure.

🪥 If plaque is not adequately removed by proper brushing, the acid will demineralize the tooth, eventually resulting in a cavity.

🦷 If detected early, these areas can sometimes be remineralized with proper oral hygiene at home or fluoride treatments in the office.
