For those of you who have a bonded (or permanent) retainer, there are certain foods that can break the retainer or distort the wire. This could then allow your teeth to move.

Tortilla chips seem to be the #1 culprit. You can still eat them, just allow them to get soft and eat them with your back teeth. Raw carrots and apples should also be eaten with your back teeth.

If you ever think your retainer does not feel quite right be sure to call us so that we can check it. We do not want your teeth to move.

In our practice we call it “Slenderizing” the teeth. It is a very helpful procedure we utilize when needed!

Interproximal reduction is now a routine component of many orthodontic treatment plans, particularly in clear aligner therapy. In 1985, however, Dr. John J. Sheridan’s introduction of air-rotor stripping represented a significant departure from more traditional approaches to space management.

The article describes a controlled method of enamel reduction intended to relieve crowding, improve tooth-size relationships, and reduce the need for extraction or excessive expansion in appropriately selected cases. Although the instruments and protocols have continued to evolve, many of the underlying clinical principles remain familiar today.
