✨ BIG NEWS: The SOCO General Dentistry takeover starts TOMORROW! ✨

Dr. Tyler will officially be seeing patients in our new space at previously Dr. Staph’s practice in just down the 74 starting tomorrow!

Now… the full SOCO transformation is going to take a few months. And yes… those ARE paper charts you spotted. 😂 We definitely have our work cut out for us!

While Dr. Tyler is busy taking care of patients, we’ll be working behind the scenes to bring in new technology, update the space, and give the office the SOCO brand + experience you already know and love. We can’t wait to bring you along for the transformation!

What if Phase I orthodontics could do more than just straighten teeth?

This patient started with a narrow 22 mm upper arch, skeletal Class III growth pattern, enlarged adenoids, mouth breathing, snoring, and diagnosed sleep apnea.

After 16 months of upper expansion + braces + facemask therapy, we gained 9.2 mm of transverse width—but the changes went beyond the smile.

The tongue thrust is still present, which is exactly why treatment doesn’t stop when the orthodontic appliance comes out. She’s now working with myofunctional therapy to address function and help support long-term stability.

This is why I’m passionate about looking beyond straight teeth. Early orthodontics is about about growth, function, breathing, and creating space—not just aesthetics.

Every child is different, and expansion is not a stand-alone treatment for sleep apnea or enlarged adenoids. Airway concerns should always be evaluated collaboratively with the appropriate medical

Before we label it as “just ADHD,” I think we need to ask another question: how is this child sleeping and breathing?

Sleep-disordered breathing in kids can show up in ways parents may not immediately connect to the airway — difficulty focusing, hyperactivity, behavioral changes, restless sleep, mouth breathing, snoring, and daytime fatigue.

That doesn’t mean every child with ADHD has an airway issue, and it doesn’t mean airway treatment replaces an ADHD evaluation. But I do believe sleep and breathing deserve a seat at the table.

At SOCO, airway screening is part of how we look at the whole child — not just the teeth.

If your child is struggling with focus, sleep, mouth breathing or snoring, it may be worth asking: has anyone evaluated their airway yet?

This is what Phase I ortho can look like when we treat growth + function, not just straighten teeth. 🦷✨

In just 15 months, this patient went from significant crowding and a narrow upper + lower arch to creating the space needed for the adult teeth to erupt more naturally.

But my favorite part of this transformation isn’t just what you can SEE. 👀

Before treatment:
→ Snoring + mouth breathing
→ Grinding
→ Enlarged adenoids
→ Not enough room for adult teeth
→ Increasing crowding as baby teeth transitioned to permanent teeth

After upper + lower expansion + upper braces:
✨ More space for the permanent teeth
✨ Lower teeth naturally became more aligned — without lower braces
✨ Mouth breathing → nasal breathing
✨ No more reported snoring or grinding
✨ Adenoids reduced in size

This is why timing matters. Phase I orthodontics isn’t about making baby teeth perfectly straight—it’s about taking advantage of growth to create a healthier foundation for the permanent teeth, bite, and airway.

The biggest orthodontic changes happen before all the adult teeth are even in. 🤍

Individual results vary. Improvement in breathing symptoms can have multiple causes, and orthodontic expansion is not a treatment for sleep-disordered breathing or enlarged adenoids on its own.

Because if you have to turn your expander… you might as well make it fun.

You’ve heard of peptides for your skin… but what about peptides for your teeth? 🦷✨

Curodont uses a self-assembling peptide called P11-4 that penetrates early, non-cavitated lesions and creates a scaffold that helps attract calcium and phosphate—supporting remineralization from within the lesion.

Translation: for the right early cavity, we may have another tool to help stop progression before it turns into something that needs a filling.

Dentistry is getting pretty cool. 👀
