Most people wait too long to fix this one tooth problem. Here's the sign.

A tooth that hurts when you bite down, or sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after you finish your sip. That can point to a crack or a deep cavity, and both tend to get bigger (and pricier) the longer they wait. Caught early, it is often a simple filling or crown. Left alone, it can turn into a root canal or an extraction.

Don't wait for it to become an emergency.
