NOW Available. The NTI dental bite appliance, or Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition Tension Suppression System (NTI-TSS)

An NTI is a small, removable, acrylic mouthguard that's worn over the front teeth while sleeping to help prevent teeth grinding and clenching.

The NTI-TSS is designed to support the jaw in a prescribed position and prevent the back teeth from occluding, which can help relieve stress and inhibit bruxism.

It also takes advantage of the jaw's opening reflex by only allowing contact with one or two front teeth, which can help reduce temporal muscle contraction.

The NTI-TSS can be used to treat a number of conditions, including:


The FDA has cleared the NTI-TSS for the prevention of migraines and tension-type headaches, and studies have shown that it can reduce clenching forces by about 70%.

Some patients find the NTI-TSS more comfortable than a full-arch occlusal splint, or traditional which fits over all the teeth in a single arch.
