A tongue tie doesn’t always need to be treated. Some children have a tongue tie without experiencing any problems with feeding, speech, oral function, or other aspects of development. When concerns are present, a pediatric dentist or other qualified healthcare provider can evaluate your child and determine whether treatment may be appropriate. The goal is to treat when it’s needed, not simply because a tongue tie is present.
