With MARPE (mini implant assistant rapid palatal expander) and clear aligners, we were able to broaden his smile and correct his crowding and crossbite. This young patient came to us wanting to know what we could do to fix his severe underbite. We diagnosed him with a narrow upper jaw that is also underdeveloped anterior posteriorly (front to back). Rapid palatal expansion with reverse pull headgear is a great treatment option for this type of patient had we seen them at a younger age (6-9), however with skeletal anchorage in the form of MARPE (Mini-Implant Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion), we can accomplish this in older patients. This patient will continue reverse pull headgear wear at home (not at school) and will move into clear aligners to align the teeth. With proper diagnosis, treatment planning, and a very compliant patient, great things are possible! .

With proper treatment planning and digital setup, Dr. Freelove corrected our patient’s openbite, broadened his dental arches (wider smile! 😃), and aligned his teeth with clear aligners.
